Good afternoon everyone,

I want to reload my once fired Norma brass with Cutting Edge Solids.

I have a Winchester Model 70 Safari Express in 416 Rem Mag. I’ve heard reports of CEB Safari Solids not feeding well in the Win Model 70’s due to their flat face.

Is this a consistent problem? Anyone experienced this in real practice?

It’s an easy fix if it’s an actual issue, but I’d rather know before I purchase a bunch of bullets and then have to modify my magazine/feed rank before I can get a lot of test shooting in.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Good afternoon.

I’ve used a few pre ‘64 Winchester Model 70s in assorted calibers which needed a gunsmith to do some filing work to the feeding ramp before they could feed flat nosed solids. But the modern Portuguese made Winchester Model 70 Safari Express has always (in my experience) feed all bullet nose profiles reliably out of the box.

I've a couple hundred 350 grainers I could send you a handful to test feeding if you like. DM address if yes.

MY .416 B&M was based on a Model 70 action. No issue whatsoever. However, my .500 MDM which had a Montana rifle action (Model 70 clone) did have an issue that had to be resolved. So, best to load a few and check.

While I cannot vouch for their performance I've had absolutely no issues with them (400 grain in a .416) feeding from my control feed Ruger M77 Hawkeye (hinged floor plate magazine) in my hand loaded ammo at 3.225" OAL. Off of sticks the rifle with that load groups right around a inch as long as I do my part.

Just a tip, when checking whether they feed, load a full magazine. Some rifles will feed from the right side of the magazine but not the left. My Winchester Safari Express .416 rem mag feed flat nosed Peregrine bullets smoothly, however, I've never tried CEB.

Newer production Safari Express in 416 Rem Mag had no issues feeding 370 or 400gr CEBs from either side of the mag, without feed modification. COAL was 3.595".

I never had a problem with CEB solids or tipped bullets in any Winchester 70 or Ruger 77 after I have test them for feeding and adjusted the springs in the floor plate. After adjusting I glue the spring in place using JB Weld so there is never any problem and they cannot move.

All my rifles no matter what caliber I JB Weld the spring in a position the they function properly and can never move.

I have seen were springs can be moved forward or backward changing the tention some FTF.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
