Cottontails

For those of you using 12 gauge, what are preferred set ups? Shotshells, chokes, etc. what type of pattern are you looking for, and at what distance?

I have an old Franchi 48AL that was a Christmas present in 1980(?). I’ll have to look at the choke tube and pattern it.
Rabbit in the grass or field 12ga 2 and 3-4 #7 1/2
Swamps 12 ga 2 and 3/4 # 5 shot
Choke full.

Thats was when I was younger now
410 3in #5 or 6 full choke

took the Army& Navy .410 for a stroll this morning.

2” .444 Marlin brass, wads and shot cards over No6 shot. All thanks to Talketna Ray.

The 3/8 ounce No 6 shot stoned him at 20ish yards.

Wolves here as far as rabbits and squirrels go
Is a bot fly larvae. Very nasty things.
they are ugly to the bone and you are likely spot on as to them being Botfly larvae whatever that is instead of land leaches, whatever those are---I just repeat what I'm told, same as being married....

Botfly lays a egg on you. It eats in through the skin or some say a wound all ready on you.
It grows and eats you what you see at the top of the skin is a breathing hole.
Don’t smash them it can cause a very bad infection.
They will get in horses and cattle, dogs and cats.
It can get on you but not as likely.
There are other versions of them and some really do like people.
And the screwworm. Just nasty

The species of cuterebra larva that we have in the US doesn’t infect humans. There are species in tropical areas that definitely do. My sister in law came back from Belize with one in her back. That one now resides in the UT Vet school parasitology dept.

No offense, but, brrrr… this just gave me the heebie-jeebies!

I agree that they normally don’t.
But I have heard they can and do.
A vet buddy of mine said he never seen it but would expect a pet owner get ahold of a pet with the larva on it.
I really don’t know.

But it looks like the screwworm might be comeing back. That’s very bothersome

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
