After multiple, wasted 30 mile round trips to the range, finally did something yesterday afternoon I’ve been putting off for at least 25 years. I fired up the tractor and chainsaw and built a fifty yard range in my back yard. I can move the bench back to 100 yards if needed. But 90% of my shooting is old muzzleloaders and old BPCR rifles so 50 yards is plenty. And perfect for checking DG guns. Bench for the 50 yard range is next to the shop and sooo handy.

I believe, based on my informal survey for the past year, over half the rifles being shot at our range are braked. Some weekends are dominated by braked rifles and/or rattle battle rangers. Either case makes any serious shooting impossible. I’m perfectly happy letting them enjoy each other’s muzzle blast.
Even had one shooter last week tell me, with smug arrogance, he needed the brake for shooting pop cans at 1000 yards. Some are so self-deluded about their gadgetry, they start believing the BS. Sad part is he is an experienced shooter I’ve known for 20 years. Oh well
