Black or Blue Wildebeest

Where are you hunting?
Near Kimberley SA.

I wish I could take all three beests. Then again I wish I could hunt more of just about everything. Hell I got caught hunting a mouse in the basement. My wife's only question was how long till deer season starts?

Both of course. But one my first safari I got the blue. Then last year I went for a black and get a red hartebeest as well. So some would call this a beest slam. As mentioned above the blue wildebeest is a tough customer and can present a big challenge.

Well the price of a second animal is less than another round trip ticket...

The blue has a prettier hide, so if you are thinking skull mount and rug, I'd advise blue. The black is a bit smaller and maybe a bit cooler looking for a shoulder mount.

The black seemed like a harder hunt to me. Perhaps because my wife shot the blue.

If I ever get to go on safari, I would choose the Blue Wildebeest first. It just seems to be one of those Iconic type of plainsgame. Those videos I have seen of the BW migration up on the Serengeti, are spectacular.

I really like the Black Wildebeest.

Woods I really like your black wildebeest! Awesome bosses!

Blue has always been my favorite. Migration with the zebras just implies Africa.

I took both.... Glad I did. Neither one was on my original hit list. However, they are both awesome & ugly in their own special way. Hindsight I would have busted a Red Hartebeest while there. mad that I didn't.

Thanks Jeff, I'm getting to really like the Beeste's!! :ROFLMAO:

I took 2 Blue Wildebeest when we went. One was free. I do wish I had taken a Black also. It is on my list if I ever get back to Africa.

I´ve got both, but prefer the black. It was a harder hunt too, as they are continually on the move, jumping all over the field.

Nyati, Outstanding pair of Beeste's!!:). Kevin

As others said, take both if possible.
Personally I prefer the Black Wildebeest.
Specially with a bow.

I have a Black Wildebeest that I shot with a gun and I really want to get one by spot and stalk with my bow too.
I want a Blue as well, but the Black is still higher on my wish list with my bow :)

My Black.

both are very tough plainsgame but I love the blue, hard to turn down a wide hard-bossed blue bull,
it is also my favorite African game meat. Cow or bull it is extra fun with a double!

I was fascinated by the Black Wildebeest, the way they charge around and behave I could have watched them for hours.

However, I would rather shoot a blue. I think they look great, tough as old boots and an iconic African animal.

My Black with a bow 2011... but believe me I would have taken a Blue if it had presented itself .

G Skinner love your black! A black with my bow is on top of my list with my hunt with Bosendal this July. I would love to get one with big bosses like yours.

@Jody If you have to choose, go with the black for this time.

If you know a little history of these critters, you know that hunters brought them back from near extinction byt putting value on them.

Now I hear disgruntled talk amongst some breeders over the extra paperwork involved with them... As they have become more populous and prices have moderated, they are losing their luster to breeders/owners and as the regulations have not backed off with the increased numbers, they risk becoming more bother than they are worth. The owner of the property I just hunted them on had recently culled a couple hundred and plans to cull at least hundreds more. They could go full circle and decline in numbers if they are not removed from requiring a TOPS permit. But lots of them around now and prices are reasonable so take advantage of it!

I don't understand this "or" nonsense :)

Beeste Boys: On a dollar per pound basis, the blue is one of the best 3 deals in Africa.........but Jeff is right on................it will still be hunting, not a supermarket trip....................take the target of opportunity.............................FWB

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
