8x68S barrel twist ?

Thanks, I'm looking at a 9.4 Lothar Walther, so I think that might be the go.

Well, you cant over stabilise a bullet. The modern 8mms all seem to have a 1/10" twist. I think a 1/9.4" twist should be fine.

Agree rifletuner. In general, is much better, more versatile, a little too fast than a little too slow rifling twist.

Johan Greyling and me has discussed this topic . I commenced building a 8x68S , Johan Greyling being my Mentor always have to answer my numerous questions...I told Johan I want a 8x68S barrel with a 1:9.45 rifling twist.

A fried of mine bought a 8x68S barrel from Truvelo company in South Africa since he worked at the Truvelo Company ...they made a 1:9.45 twist barrel on his request.

He said he used this barrel to devastating effect on every plains game and it was extremely accurate . He send me photos of his groups he shot , he used heavy bullets 225gn ...

Johan explained to me that the 1:10 rifling twist will be more appropriate. The 8x68S being a magnum caliber and will stabilize the 8x68S long bullets in the 250gn weight better .

There is no comparison between a 8x57js and a 8x68S caliber except the .323" inch bullet diameter . The Mauser 8x57 JS is a bush caliber short thick heavy bullet profile...the 8x68S is a long range heavy /large carcass hunting rifle caliber....using long , heavy for weight bullets stabilizing over long distances due to the magnum velocities and pressures of the large case .

This is the reason why the 8x68S is a better option in the 1:10 rifling twist...so I ordered a PAC -NOR 8x68S , 1: 10 rifling twist and 28"inch heavy magnum profile . I believe it is a good barrel and will proof to be an accurate barrel.

This is how I understand the reason for not using a 8x57JS rifling twist in a 8x68S rifle barrel.
