There is some confusion and misinformation about 7mm that is common on the internet. Here are a couple of tidbits:

1) There is no minimum caliber law that requires a 7mm rifle for plainsgame in Namibia.

2) A meter is 39.370 inches. A millimeter is .039370 inches. Seven (7) millimeters is .27559 inches.

3) A .270 bullet measuring .277 inches is slightly larger than 7mm, but rifles chambered with the name of "7mm" use bullets measuring .284 inches.

This is where the confusion stems from.

........

This is what NAPHA posts.

Smallest calibre 7 mm.

THIS IS THE LAW

Namibia Nature Conservation Ordinance

Restrictions in regard to fire-arms and capturing apparatus

42. (1) No person shall use a revolver, pistol or automatic fire-arm when hunting game or use a
fire-arm of which the bullet has an energy at the muzzle of the barrel which is lower than the following
when hunting the species of game indicated thereunder:

(a) 5400 joules:
Buffalo.

(b) 2700 joules:
Eland
Kudu
Oryx
Wildebeest
Hartebeest
All species of exotic game.

(c) 1350 joules:
Springbok
Duiker:

Here is a quick conversion for the non metric folks.

Minimum energy (Eo - muzzle velocity):
1350 Joule for springbuck, duiker etc. 995 Ft lbs.
2700 Joule for hartebeest, wildebeest, kudu, gemsbuck, eland etc. 1991 Ft lbs.
5400 Joule for buffalo, elephant, rhino etc. 3982 Ft lbs.
.......

....

Norma ammo in 6.5x55 with a 140 grain Nosler Partition bullet has 3061 Joule at the muzzle.
Very similar with their 156 grain Oryx bullet.

Plenty above the demand of 2700 Joule.

This is good to know, especially for a guy whos only rifle over 7mm is a .338 Lapua. I guess when I go I will just have to be sure that whatever PH I choose is OK with my caliber choice.

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
