I find that the Barnes Reloading Manual #4 & Website provide loading data for the 500 NE that strays away from the traditional powders that Hornady & Swift use for their equivalent loads. I'm more of a traditional H/IMR 4831 or H/IMR 4350 reloader. Has anyone worked up any loads for these powders with the 570 Grain TSX bullets? I'm looking for something that will place me in the 2100 fps area. However, with there being the potential for more contact area on the rifle lands with these bullets I'm hesitating to find my own starting point. I do respect this is a touchy area. I'm using a Heym 89B rifle.

I reloaded for the 500 NE. The key is recoil. I used IMR3031 at 80 grains with filler to get 2052 FPS with pussy cat recoil compared to SC4831 or even 4350 that will take over 100 grains to get the same FPS. The difference is the second two powders will get your attention with their recoil

Thx. What do you use for filler? Dacron? Have you used the Barnes TSX bullets and if so have you seen the need to reduce the powder charge be several grains to get similar performance?

I used the Trader Keith’s #2 precut fillers. Solids and softs can very by a few grains and yes I have used Barnes TSX in one of my 500’s while my other one I did not given its age

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
