Malaria Medication Next Week in Limpopo - Take or Not

My son and I are traveling for a hunt, trying to decide if I really should take my malaria medicine, it seems we are just out of the area map that I could find for malaria and I also seemed to find information that we are at the end of the risky season. looking for more experienced input...

    Blaser R8 multi-barrel cases

The great thing is that you can buy replacement foam and make different case layouts for each trip. I seriously tho about removing scopes and carrying them separately but eventually decided to leave them on the barrels in the cases. My son and I leave Tuesday next week for our first South Africa...

Avoid KLM when traveling with rifles

What a horror story, sorry things were not smooth. I'm traveling next week for a South Africa hunt with my son, we paid the extra cost to go through Atlanta to Joberg with Delta, keeping our fingers crossed. I would be gutted if my rifle showed up 6 days later, that's really messed up.

Drilling or Combo gun as an alternative to a Double for Plains Game?

I have a nice 16/16/ 7 x 57R drilling with a quick release scope and a few combination rifles, I've always enjoyed getting them out and using them, it's time to get them out a little more often!

    Remington core lokt

The only problem with Remington Core Lokts today is the price, I guess I'm just not up to date on ammunition costs today. Every time I pull out my old stock the pricing on the boxes makes me smile. It's the same with primers, my current Magnum rifle Remington primers has a $14 sticker on the box...

    Talk me into Blaser R8

I love a nice piece of wood on a rifle but cannot remember my last wood stock rifle that I purchased, My R8s are all synthetic and I just lowered myself to purchasing a plastic stock Ruger American Ranch Gen 2 rifle yesterday in 5.56, I needed a short threaded barrel, scope rail already fitted...

4 decades of shooting Core Lockts in .243, 308, 7mm rem mag, .338 win mag and .375 H&H. I don’t have a bad word to say, they were my number one choice in commercial non premium ammo. All accurate and knocked game down well, I still have stock of many at home And I’m still using them today.

I'm new to .300 Wm over the last 2 years, I come from 25+ years of .338 WM for hunting. I'm very impressed with the versatility of the .300 WM and can see a lot of use in the future, I'm taking a .300 WM to S. Benelli R1 Endurance

Hi, I purchased a Benelli R1 Synthetic new some years ago in .308 Win. I really like the feel of the rifle and it shoots very accurately, I think that you are going to like shooting it. My taste was for the synthetic version based on dragging it around the woods and up trees for deer hunting...

Difference in Velocities for .308 Barrels

I’ve been a big fan of Ruger rifles for 40 years, I always felt that the M77 scope mounting rings / system was best in class, I hunted hard rugged mountain territory and so many of my buddies had scope base and scope ring issues on their rifles. The 3 position safety on the M77 MK II was again a...

What problems have you encountered with your Blaser R8?

They really do pack nicely for travel, time to spend some money, remember to budget for a Pelican 1700 case, mine's going to Africa in a few weeks, Turkish boar at the end of the year, trying to plan New Zealand for 2025. What problems have you encountered with your Blaser R8?

Only operator errors: 1. Not fully closing bolt in very early days. 2. Using Magnum bold head with Standard barrel - No extraction !! Otherwise it has knocked over everything I have aimed it at. The real test will come next month when my son and I take our R8's to Africa.

    Recommended Ammo for .375 H&H?

If it was me and the goal is only plains game, I would come down from the 300 gn and consider a slightly lighter bullet of 250 - 275 gn. As others have suggested a quality bonded bullet is a good choice.

Not sure I have a good reason but my thoughts are 375 for the buffalo and then swap to the 300 WM, I like the extra reach out ability even if not required. Yep that will be me too with 2 magnum barrels, I've had the magnum bolt head in since November last year as I've only been shooting magnum calibers for Africa practice, a quick switch to .308 and just not remembering the bolt head change is a good lesson in what can go wrong! Luckily it was...

    7mm Rem Mag

It sounds like you are shooting plains game, I also shoot the 7mm magnum, I would suggest a quality bullet but your decision should be based on what you are going to shoot. Swift A frames are sometimes difficult to locate, Barnes are great bullets but I’m not sure they are needed for plains...

    300wm rifle scope

Sounds like that works for you and they look a lot less cost than my suggestion! I'm a little old fashioned and work on holdover or ballistic reticule. The Leupold looks nice and compact, I see the turret locking buttons on their more expensive range. Great feature.

    300wm rifle scope

Does the Leupold have exposed turrets? based on your comments I would look for something that did not have exposed turrets to ensure you are not accidently winding the turrets during horseback or ATV travel. You did not say if you were hunting any DG? .338 Win Mag is a great selection for any PG. Pelican prerogatives - 1750 vs 1700 for int'l travel - experiences wanted

As far as a Pelican 1700 looking like a gun case, I’ve camouflaged ours to look like music instruments, they are covered in music and band stickers ….lol I think easier travel, fitting in cars easier are all good points. PPU (prvi partisan) .375 H&H performance?

PPU is never my first choice but I've shot it in 9.3 x 62 and .308, it's been OK for soft skin animals. I would never take it DG hunting or Plains Game hunting, there are so many better options. Why pay for an expensive hunt and trip to use cheap ammo. The final cost of your ammo is...
