Currently I have open bottles of Blantons, Weller SR, EHT Single Barrel/Small Batch, and Heaven Hill bourbon. For scotch: Lagavulin 16, Oban 14, Highlands Park 15. Debating buying the Woodford Reserve Masters Collection at my local store. I came into a haul of high end scotch recently (didn't...

    New Bird Dog

Know it's been a while since I posted on this thread, but I recently moved to Colorado with my wife and dogs. Ive been chasing Blue Grouse every chance I can get and plan to chase birds all winter, especially with pheasant and quail season opening soon. If anyone is around the area and...

    Waterfowling dogs

Cedarwood kennel in Idaho. Though any breeder on pudelpointer.org should be excellent due to the high standards imposed by the parent organization.

    Waterfowling dogs

Every pudelpointers I've come across are great dogs. Most are hard hunting well prior to their first birthday. Definitely worth looking into as well.

    Whisky appreciation

Yeah, the old hat bartender at the place I worked after college was a huge bourbon fan. He usually got one bottle a year and we'd open at the annual Christmas party. Was really good. The Stagg Jr is definitely more my price range though.

Is that Stagg Jr? If so, have you ever had the regular George T Stagg?

Bird Hunting In Namibia VS South Africa

That's my thinking. I love bird hunting, especially over pointers and look forward to doing some wingshooting when I go.

    New Bird Dog

Hoping to hunt some gambels in the next 1-2 years. I'll definitely have my dog snake broken and outfitted with boots, etc before I do though. I wish my family land in Illinois still held the coveys of wild quail like it did when my dad was growing up. I would likely hunt primarily quail if that...

    New Bird Dog

My older dog is her aunt! Found that out after seeing my puppies mother. They looked so alike that I asked and found out my dogs sire is the grandpa of my puppy. Looking forward to another natural ability hunting dog. Will start hunting her this fall.

Bird Hunting In Namibia VS South Africa

I am curious as to the differences between the RSA and Namibia with regards to wing shooting opportunities. I am planning to go on safari in '23 but would like to tack on some wingshooting as well. I know that the RSA has good wingshooting (with varied species) but am less familiar with the...

    Kansas Pheasant Hunt Information

You can also look at mobilehuntingmaps.com While I haven't used them yet, it seems like a better version of onX where they lay habitat and good cover over the gps maps. I plan to try them out in October for grouse in the north woods. Seems promising to help dial in an area for a self guided hunt.

    Kansas Pheasant Hunt Information

My dad's friends have been to upland inn hunts for the past several years and have done great. I'm starting to plan a self guided hunt for next year, as Kansas (as well as some of nebraska) have wild quail as well. Plus those two states allow you to hunt at sunup unless I'm mistaken, whereas SD...

    New Bird Dog

2020 was my first time up there. Just said screw it and went since I wasn't sure where I would be able to go with covid. We based around Crystal Falls and there were tons of grouse and some woodcock, though it was early (I have a friend in Iron River and he knew multiple good spots but every one...

Couple pictures from the U.P. back in October and a picture of my first Brit Sasha retrieving a bird recently. Figured this group might appreciate these.

    New Bird Dog

I am always glad to meet new people and new hunting areas! Especially those who appreciate good bird dogs. My wife hasn't really been out west yet so I'm starting to plan some bird hunt vacation/road trips over the next few years. I'll let you know if I pass by your way and do the same if you...

    New Bird Dog

Not sure where you're located. But the breeder I got her from is great. He's certified to train in the Rick Smith silent command system. Plus there's the added bonus of these dogs retrieving naturally and liking water. My current Britt is getting arthritis, but she's out retrieved and out hunted...

    New Bird Dog

Just got the newest addition to my family today. She's a 10 week old Brittany out of Wisconsin. Had the pleasure of discovering that my current Britt is her aunt. She comes from Beaupre Gun Dogs in Wisconsin and comes from AKC MH line dogs on both sides. My dad was able to take a litermate and...

A Sad Day Yesterday. Had to Put My Old Dog Down!

    What to use for grouse

I use a Ruger 20g O/U in the U.P. for grouse/woodcock. I run a 7 1/2 in the bottom barrel and a #6 in the top barrel. As others have said, I try for open chokes, as I'm shooting them on the wing over my Brittany.

1 1/8 Ounce (32 Gram) Cartridges For Geese

Don't normally notice the recoil until I feel my arm the next day. Anytime we have the huge flocks that winter here lock up and come in, the adrenaline is so high I can't notice.

1 1/8 Ounce (32 Gram) Cartridges For Geese

Currently use 3 1/2 BBB shells in northern Illinois if exclusively hunting geese. Plan to get a 10 gauge for geese, as I do agree about the points made about 3 1/2" shells. Wish our limit was as high as my friends back in Canada. Only just raised to 3 bird limit a day last year.

    Hunting over pointing dogs

I am new here, but love hunting upland birds as much as the job allows (and weather the past few years). I am currently looking at getting a new puppy, likely another field trial American Britt, a Pudelppinter, or perhaps a GSP. Ttundra, not sure where youre located in Illinois, but I am always...

    Hello from Illinois

Greetings everyone. I have been watching this site since last fall (when I met the Chicago chapter president of the SCI in Saskatoon with me on buisness and him coming back from goose hunting). I am an avid (or as much as work allows) upland bird hunter, and like waterfowl and big game hunting...
