I must be the rogue... I love my .416 Rem. I've taken cape buff (no issues), and most large game down from that with it. I also like the .416 Ruger, but no experience with it. The .416 Rem. has been around for a long time, and is still in the runnin' for a dangerous game preference...

I too would buy .416 Rem. It's a great caliber with manageable recoil, to me. Handloading is quite easy too. Ammo is/has been available for this caliber, almost universally. Swift, Barnes, Hornady and other bullets for reloading are usually available.

No, I didn't hunt inside Kruger, but adjacent to Greater Kruger. No size restriction where I hunted, but saw few bulls with fully hard bosses.

I recently hunted cape buffalo with @MATTANJA HUNTING SAFARIS, PH Dieter Prinsloo. My hunt was very successful by day four. PH Dieter is very selective in choosing a bull to harvest. He insists on an "old" bull no longer with the herd, those past breeding dominance and therefore, hanging out...

I owned .222 rifles in the 60's. Fast forward 50 years - my passion for that caliber stuck with me. I now own and handload for several .222's - easy to load for... and easy to make each a real shooter! Love 'em!

I have booked a cape buffalo hunt in far north S. Africa. My plan is to use my .416 Rem. rifle. Question: Will using Swift A-Frame 350 gr. bullets be "plenty" sufficient, loaded to about 2,500 fps mv? I could go to another bullet and/or weight, if strongly advised to do so. Comments...

I don't mind a reasonable drive from Joberg, provided someone picks me up and drives me from the Airport. I do not prefer EC, as I have experienced hunting in that area before. I would like as remote as possible within a couple hours of OR Tambo. I like the idea of spending time in/around Kruger.

I agree with practically all of the responses, but one sticks out to me, from shootist43, you can't go wrong with both calibers. Your .30-06 should be just fine for the game you're after, with the RIGHT BULLET.
