How many guns is “too many”?

I always thought that I had everything that I needed when it came to firearms... However , I have always had a lot of wants. And then the state that I live in (Oregon) passed a law that will require a long drawn out, expensive permitting process to go thru before you have "the right" to...

    Oregon deer (big game) questions...

Like said above, lots of land that is open to the public. The deadline to apply for draw only areas of Central/Eastern Oregon is May 15th. Our mule deer population has really decreased over the last few years. Blacktail in the coast range seem to be fairing a little better. There is a lot of...

    Winchester 1200. Opinions?

I have the model 120, which I think is cheaper model of the 1200?? My parents bought it for me when I was 13 or 14 in the early 80s. It's been my only shotgun for the last 40 years and I have never ever had it malfunction thru quite a few thousands of rounds.

    Do you remember when…

Remember when Copenhagen went to 50 cents and we all bitched... Then about the time I was in the 8th grade it went to 85 cents a can and we all swore if it hit $1 we were quitting..... Once it hit a buck, you had to be careful who you bummed a chew from because some guys liked to recycle....I...

Thoughts on the use of a Pederzoli Kodiak .50 sxs muzzle loader : 370gn Maxi-balls for plains game hunting?

The Fever Tree bullet looks good. I bet you would need a pretty hefty charge to make the 610 grainer effective. I could never get the Great Plains to shoot well. But Maxi-Balls work well in both my 54 cal side lock and my daughter's 50 cal in-line. The in-line has a 1-24 twist. It shoots best...

    Mispronounced gun names

So is it lea-pold or lew-pold or lewa-pold? Living close to their headquarters/factory and meeting a few people that have worked for them, you would think I would know...but I have heard all three pronunciations over the years by people that should know...

    Show off your 100-year-old guns

I have a Krag also. My dad is in his mid 80's now and he has slowly started parsing out his rifles to my brother and I. Out of the 15-20 guns he has sent home with me over the last couple of years, the Krag is the one I desired the most... I remember shooting it as a kid and thinking it was...

    “Safari” vs Hunting Trip?

I don't know, I've done a lot of thinking about this. I like to think that any time that you go afield after multiple species, it could be considered a safari. Hunt what the bush gives up on any particular day. A couple of years ago, my wife and I both had tags for both deer and elk that we...

Best practice vs good enough for hunting

The newest issue of American Rifleman has an interesting article regarding reloading with just the essential steps vs fully prepping each case and how practical accuracy was affected. The difference was pretty small. When I was young, my dad would help me reload. He reloaded his entire adult...

    Ideal Couger bullet?

My dad has a friend that used to contract with the state to hunt cougars with his hounds. He swears by a 45-70 using 400 grain bullets. It protects his hounds. I have a friend that has called in a few cougars. He prefers his AR for quick follow up shots after nearly being run over after...

Dan wesson 1911 engraved bbq gun

I bought a Kimber with aluminum? frame in 2020. I really like it... My only complaint is that it definitely took 300-400 rounds to work out the kinks... I had occasional failure to feed issues with the factory mag. The last round would not feed. I purchased Mec-Gar mags and haven't had any...

    Simple Camp Set-Up

I love your camp. I feel pretty fortunate that your style of camping is my wife's favorite way. We use 2 gazebos and attach walls. It gives us a nice 10x20 space that only takes a few minutes to set up. Cabela's used to sell nice walls, but small tarps work fine.

    Movies Film

I watched it many times with my oldest brother. He was a timber faller here in Oregon and naturally loved anything to do with logging. The arm tied onto the boat flipping the bird is still one of my favorite scenes from any movie.

    For the tractor lovers

I only have my John Deere 750. I have no real need for it, I really only "need" a good riding mower, but where's the fun in that. Do I need a 7mm Mag

You need a 223 because you can almost always find ammo, or at least it's cheap enough to buy a bunch to get thru the dumb ammo shortages we seem to have every few years. You DO need a 22-250, because it's awesome. Great for coyotes and other vermin. It's just fun. And you do need a 243 for...
