    375 H&H

I do enjoy handloading even in smaller quantities that I don't shoot as often. I am stuck between the 375 H&H and 416 Rigby. If given the chance I would like to use both when I get down there in '19. Here is the email from Woodleigh on the heavy duty 375. Mostlikely will be a woodie or northfork...

    Woodleigh Bullets

I emailed Woodleigh on a Sunday expecting an answer in a few days or so. I had a response in a few hours. For what it's worth they make a heavy duty .375 bullet along with the standard offerings.

    Son's pig skull

Last summer I took my son to hunt pigs in OK. He has always wanted to hunt them since he was a baby... he is 12 now. He took a nice boar and the meat isn't bad at all. The taxidermist called the other day to let me know his European was ready to be picked up. Also that it had been shot in the...

    Hello Everyone

For what it's worth I was alittle worried about the words wildlife reserve in the name of the outfit. I inquired before booking, there are no fences animals are free range.

    Hello Everyone

http://www.australiawidesafaris.com.au/ Other members here have hunted there and enjoyed it. There is a post where I asked about this outfitter that has comments and info. One member had a stand offish (my words) type situation.

    Hello Everyone

The Hippo night hunt sounds interesting. Till I came here I thought they were shot out of the river. Land and night hunts sound better to me. I never thought about hunting hippo, but one day at the zoo with my kids the lightbulb went off.

    Hello Everyone

It's the Big 5 model. The action is smooth for the most part, but it could use some more range time. The trigger is great as well as the stock. The rifle balances well and my 12 year old can shoot it with the muzzle break. Right now I don't have the heart to remove it cause it is fit and...

    Hello Everyone

Im happy with it. Sometimes I think ahh I can handle more recoil. Then it gets my attention on a round or two. I think I'm going to add a receiver sight while working on handloads for it. At some point the rifle may make it's way to AHR for package #2.

    Hello Everyone

In doing research for suitable rifles and calibers I kept on finding this web site, Africa Hunting. Well, glad to be here but it has been costing me alot of money. I knew about what I wanted but the knowledge is so great here I kept on reading and learning. I grew up east coast deer hunting out...

    .375 21" barrel?

For me it would be balance. The 25" barrel on my CZ with a comfortable grip. I go over the front of the ejection port down, around the front of the floor plate hinge with one hand. The sling resides in my pack till I'm packing meat. A casual walk about method the rifle is barrel heavy tipping...

    Went for a walk

A previous post prompted me to take my rifle for a walk, the barrel cut post. My rifle, CZ 550 416 Rigby, 3 rounds in the magazine. I wanted to see after a while how the rifle balanced and how I switched positions with it. I found a comfortable 1 handed carry position but the barrel tips down...

    .280 Remington

Whatever it's worth I saw a recovered GMX from an elk. The petals sheared off after expanding and were recovered in the meat. Yes the bullet worked it was out of a 280 Ackley don't remember the distance or bullet placement. But the user preferred partitions and felt the gmx guilding metal was to...

    Trophy Bonded Bear Claw Bullets

I lived in Colorado for 16 years, recently moved. Except for antelope, I hunted with a Marlin 45 70. Iron sights and my cast bullets. They never let me down.

    Trophy Bonded Bear Claw Bullets

From what I have seen I would prefer the TBBC for larger game like elk. The trophy bonded tip blew a nice hole clean through an antelope. But a few days later a bull was shot twice with no signs of being hit. Yes the bull died, but I wasn't impressed with the performance compared to the smaller...

    308 Winchester Caliber Opinions...

My Ruger scout has the 16.25" barrel. It sends 150 gr TTSX 2700 fps. That bullet has a ferral hog and antelope to its credit. The antelope was 200 yards quartering towards. Shot point of shoulder it was found in the rear quarter just bruising the meat. Carried the same for elk this year. Shots...

    USA: First Elk Hunt

Thanks. I never hunted third season. I didn't think the elk would be vocal at all, let alone repetitive like they were. Also didn't think bulls would still be with cows, but the droppings said otherwise. Maybe younger bulls?

    USA: First Elk Hunt

This year my son carried his first elk tag up the mountain. One day before the Colorado third rifle season had me picking him up alittle early from school to set up camp. Day one of the hunt found us in the pitch black dark hiking in. About half way to the hunting area he asked me if I adjusted...

    Shooting a 416 Rigby

Finally got around to shooting. The CZ was more comfortable than the Ruger I fired. Didn't shoot any paper targets just shooting at a few random sage brush about 50 yards out. Used Hornady 400 gr DGX as they are cheapest to get me shooting and familiar with the rifle. Recovered 2 in the wet dirt...

AUSTRALIA: Has Anyone Hunted Water Buffalo With Carmor Plains Wildlife Reserve?

Well my deposit was made today, I'm scheduled for a 2019 water buff hunt. Been reading perfect shot II. I'm a heavy for caliber bullet guy anyways. Think I'm going to round up some 350 gr northforks for the 375 H&H and 430's for the 416 and see how they shoot. I'm sure it will be time to catch...

    550 Rear sight

My new CZ has the rear sight cut crooked and off center. I called and was told to take it off and send it in for a new one. All well and good but there is a dent in the front of the rear sight. Looks like it's staked in or is this a witness mark for sight adjustment? Does the new sight need to...

    Cast bullets

As far as accuracy is concerned for cast bullets slug your barrel to determine what size you need. Cast is not a generic like jacketed .458 for example. In my 45-70 I size to .459 from a .460 mould. .460 gets me 5/16" more accurate but at the cost of 160 fps. If you are ever looking for a...

    Shooting a 416 Rigby

I don't have plans for a scope at all for this rifle. Maybe a receiver sight? I will remember CZ specific rings thanks. I was handling the rifle outdoors and couldn't figure out why my eye seemed off. The fixed and two folding leaves of the rear sight are not symmetrical. The right side is...

    Shooting a 416 Rigby

The CZ is at the house. Have to clean it and get some ammo, dies ect. The rifle feels good, front sight bead seems alittle small. Trigger feels good, action is alittle choppy. Need to work it a bit. Thanks for all the advice

Nice buff. Is that your rifle or a camp loaner? I am thinking about taking mine and dealing with that paperwork. I hear it's not to bad and I hear it's a hastle. Can you provide detail of the hunt please? Shot distance, bullet used ect. Depending how this 416 I'm picking up works out I'll...

AUSTRALIA: Has Anyone Hunted Water Buffalo With Carmor Plains Wildlife Reserve?

Do you know how to judge a water buffalo? I haven't been able to find much. I have just been looking at pics of them comparing spread and bases. I much prefer a mature animal walking around with confidence if you will over trophy numbers. But I would still like to be able quickly assess. Some...

My large medium bore [emoji23] never thought of it like that. It was always big to me. I appreciate all the help and advice. Don't remember who or where it was here but I have seen that 505 Gibbs up at that Ft Collins gun shop. It's a beautiful rifle...baby steps

    Shooting a 416 Rigby

I will check that shirt out thanks. I wasn't planning on benching the gun till I was used to it, and load development. Shooting off hand and off sticks in the beginning. It's a good jump up in recoil compared to my 375 H&H. Any tips on shooting form? Just stay square to the target so the rifle...

    Shooting a 416 Rigby

I'm picking up a CZ in 416 Rigby on Wednesday. I have been searching all over on how to properly handle the recoil from this rifle. I have fired one a few times with poor form as the rifle came up and to the right, so I know I wasn't square. Any advice you can give is much appreciated. Thanks
