Politics

I wasn't aware that in politics anything was below the belt. It certainly wasn't give a thought when the adults paraded that whiny little spoiled brat before the U.N.

If "all is fair in love and war", that door must swing both ways, right?

We had a saying in the Marines...there is no such thing as a fair fight. You fight to win. To hell with "fair".

Worrying about fighting fair is a sure way to lose.

It's just nice to have an honor code. Also we need to raise the standards of politics.

I don't disagree one bit with you, sir.

But having watched politics for the past 40+ years (I started voting in 1976) I hold out little hope for reform and am not interesting in watching the ship sink while I pat myself on the back for my nobility.

Good point. However, I still think good behavior among your peers is essential. Like for example, don't just randomly bully liberals for the sake of it unless they're messing with you.

If someone is threatening constitutionally protected liberties, my attacking them is not random.

Just as they probably believe their attacks upon me for my positions are not random.

Eventually the needle gets moved. One way or the other.

Then try and make them see eye to eye. It requires metric shitloads of patience but it's better than losing a friend. I also think we're losing the ability to talk about politics with others without getting defensive and antsy, which I think is what's causing the feeling of division.

If I ever have a liberal friend, I will surely give it a try! lol

Things that are good for you tend to be hard but if you ain't defensive, it should go down easier.

I’m across the ocean from you yet deal with the same crap although the party names differ. But one thing I’d like to point out is that people are more than party “A” or party “B” voters and to me to classify people as liberals or republicans or labour and liberals is an oversimplification. I know it is only too easy to throw everyone opposing are viewpoint in one jar but most rational people realise world is not black and white. Sure, rational people are few and far between. Sure it is hard to stay calm when our personal freedoms are under attack. How do you stay calm when someone calls you a psychopath because you own a firearm or are willing to kill your own food? But I urge all of us hunters around the world to stay calm and respond with facts and science, not emotions. Yes, in today’s Disney skewed world it is extremely hard to have factual discussion with people who may not see eye to eye with us, but we must try.

Have any thoughts as to why this might be?

Have humans fundamentally changed? Or has their environment?

No doubt. Facts win the day after all...or they should.

But a discussion assumes two listeners as well as two speakers.

What do you do when your "opponent" refuses to follow the long-established rules? Do you just let them change the rules mid-stream, to suit their lack of facts?

Well, I drink...

Seriously though, it is extremely hard and I do not have the answers. I know that talking to a lot of people is like talking to a revolving door, if someone cannot hear facts they cannot comprehend rational discussion. Also, very often they mean us harm in the purest meaning of the word. But an emotional response is bound to fail.

If I had to make an educated guess, it'd be the media trying to monger and the internet creating really good platforms for echo-chambers (best examples are reddit and 4chan).

Also I don't think Disney alone is responsible for anti-vitrol as if it were so, the flack would have started right after Bambi in '42. I think Disney is a mere tip of the iceberg in the trend of us having a more distant, romantic relationship with wildlife. Like as a Long Islander, the wildest animals I see outside of the Bronx Zoo are mostly squirrels and sparrows. Especially with the advent of T.V. bringing wildlife images to the home viewer, I think it did encite this idea of a far off Eden beyond our little island of urbanization. This has especially been magnified in our current digital age since I can just Google HD videos of mountain gorillas or Bengal tigers. This subject would make a great book but tbh, I don't feel like it.

Notice how much more interesting American media and politics has gotten in the last month.

It will become much more interesting as we find the answers to the following four questions:

1. Who in the entertainment industry was extorted or bought off by Qatar, Iran and China?

2. Who in the media was extorted or bought off by Qatar, Iran and China?

3. Who in business/industry was extorted or bought off by Qatar, Iran and China?

4. Who in politics was extorted or bought off by Qatar, Iran and China?

Buckle up. The next 12 months should be the most entertaining in our life.

PS: If you think this is just an American phenomena, you would be mistaken. These questions will be answered in a country near you soon enough.

JUSTICE!

Not to cause an issue, but I doubt it. The swamp is too entrenched to allow draining by a mere legal system. What will be interesting will be a little more long term- when the cooling aspects of the earth offset the warming aspects, which happen cyclically and the Earth starts to cool. Meanwhile the AOCs will have shutdown the fuel industry and there will be no means to provide warmth for millions- what happens next will be really interesting- though possibly shortlived.

Break out the tin foil hats. It's an AOC town meeting.

Fair enough. We all have our opinions.

Any other time, any other president and I would agree with you. This time, between Horowitz, Huber and Durham, expect to see something different. The swamp won't be completely drained in the next five years, but it will be significantly smaller and shallower, not just in America either.

Regarding AOC, we can only hope she stays in office. She will get primaried. Her own party can't stand her.

Regarding fuel, it is interesting to watch the third world country of California going through rolling blackouts. Got to love those electric cars.;)

I wouldn't say that we have divergent opinions, just a perception of the adversary. No military has lost a battle by over estimating the adversary but many have fallen by underestimation.

AOC is being challenged. I see that Badrun Khan is running a campaign for AOC's position and has developed a good following and support. So the Bronx may get back on track.

With politics, there's one thing that really gets my preverbial goat: low blows.

For example, with the whole Greta thing, I saw several memes that went quite below the belt.

Now even if you don't liberals, this only serves to make your side look like a bunch of assholes.
Once you experience the real world and you realize that all that all of the “free stuff” that the libs want all of the have nots to have comes out of your paycheck each week, your mind will change. Most of us “assholes” here in Texas depend on oil so that we can provide free cell phones and pay for all of the illegitimate babies that are born daily. We don’t much take stock in a emotionally deranged teenager telling us that we are destroying the planet. The girl has been brainwashed by most likely her hippie type parents and is scared what they are telling her is true. She set herself up by going on the international stage and acting like a full blown bat shit crazy little girl. All Props for the leftist agenda! Go scream insanely at China about there detriments to Mother Earth, oh yeah, they would lock her up and forget about her for doing that. If I want advice from a 16 year old, I will call my son, at least he understands that the sky is not falling because daddy drives a Ford power stroke every day.
If you want to come on down here to Texas, there are plenty of jobs and hell, I will even give you one. Bet you will understand where most of us assholes come from after a couple weeks in the oilfield. By the end of it your hide will be thick like an old rhino and the little things people say will not offend you quite so much.
