Animal Rights Lies Hurting African Wildlife Management

The scourge of animal rights-ism permeates the whole world. It is as rife in Africa as it is in North America and the rest of the world. I am an 80-year-old ex-game warden with 60 years of experience in the management of Africa’s national parks and big game animals. My particular interests concern maintaining the health and vigour of national park habitats, and the proper management of elephants and black rhinos; and I pull my hair out at the blatant lies that the animal rightists tell innocent nature lovers, the world over, about both species.

The most recent one is that the African elephant is facing extinction. We are told that unless the world stops the sale of ivory, stops the legal hunting of elephants, and stops their lethal management (culling), the elephant will slide down the slippery slope to extinction. This comes from people, remember, who live in the First World, who have never seen an elephant in their lives, and who have no accountability for whatever bad recommendations they make to “save” the African elephant. Meanwhile, the opinions of experienced elephant managers, like myself, are pushed aside as “contrived fabrications”. And the whole world believes them, not the likes of me!

I wish for once we could all sit down and have a civil debate in which actual experts share the facts. Maybe then those so rabidly against hunting would be educated as to the truth. Unfortunately, civil and factual are quite difficult to achieve when their primary mode of communication is Twitter.

Most of the antis did not arrive at their positions via judicious use of logic. Thus, they will not be moved off their positions via logic, either. I'm not sure what the answer is.

As someone who is leftwing politically, an environmentalist, and loves animals more than people (my cats are my children), I personally find the logic of hunting to conserve species and their habitats as well as get closer to your food source and treat the animals with the respect they deserve to be pretty convincing. I am not sure why more people with my views do not see hunting the same way as I do. I have found that actually taking an anti out hunting (if they are open minded enough to agree to do so) is extremely rewarding and usually has a profound impact on them.

The politicians, NRA, Humane Society. PETA and all the other organizations are in It for the money as long as crap stays stired up they justify their organization and a lot of them make big bucks. A guy could probably start an organization for the right to marry your dog. If you can get enough crazies to join you could get rich.

...because they did not land on anti-hunting via logic.

that's not a view unique to leftists. I work with a really smart sysadmin. REALLY smart. He even has a "don't tread on me" license plate. He is perplexed by my desire to hunt cape buffalo. His is one of the most rational minds I've ever had the pleasure to encounter. But when it comes to hunting, he closes his mind to reason.

And whats wrong with marrying your dog ???

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
