Has anyone shot anything with this cartridge?? And has anyone heard of taking this same theory up a caliber or two? .45-70 600gr subsonic, fast twist barrel - 1:6 shooting a similar bullet?

My buddy shot a wt doe with the 8.6 last weekend and it worked great, now I want one!

@Bullthrower338
Cody you are just like a big kid in a candy shop.
Anything new you want or old for that matter.
Next you will want a 50 air rifle for deer hunting, 900fpshoukd get the job done

A couple of them here with friends, but that 1in 3 twist is too specialised & needs expensive bullets if it is to work correctly.

One swapped out to a 1in 6 which works better.

But my argument is why not a 338 Federal or even 338/06 ?

I have shot lots of big animals with 500gr .458 bullets subsonic in standard twist 45/70 Gov & recently my 450BM does the same with bullets size to .456 or so.

I have a modern 50/70 Gov Single shot rifle & a .510 WSM in a bolt gun, a bit more smack but if I could afford 750gr Maker bullets it would exceptional.

I even now have a .577 barrel & musing on a Nitro .577 Snider cartridge.

Got a .404 Jeffery being built on a Winchester 1917 action and a .45-70 Mauser. It went with me on the last Namibian trip, pictured kudu fell to 300gr TSX

I mounted a scope on a friends custom lever action in .45-70 Whisper several years back. If memory serves SSK did the work and he was using a 600 grain bullet.

I built a 8.6 Blackout on a Remington 700 sized 308 brass then neck turned the brass on my lathe. Shot it under 20 times got interested in a 308 instead because I change hunting areas and longer shots were more likely than short range and took the barrel off, everything been sitting.
For sub-sonic its is a lot better than 300 BO for hunting heaver bullets are on the plus side.

They work great especially with the new 200 grain Barnes tac bullets. As far as the subs go Iv heard of a lot of success with but have not hunted with them. I can tell you they hit steel really hard

I got two of them this summer. One in a bolt gun and one in semi auto. I’m going to use on deer this year and if the results are good it will be slaying plains game this spring.

I’m shooting handloads with 210 gr TSX. Had the 200 gr TAC-TX bullets been out I probably would have started with those. But they have been effective at killing cape buffalo with the 210 gr so I think I will be happy.

Thank you for the LIKE on my old post. It brought back memories as I lost her a year and a half ago, at 18+ years.
