You could do it as a percentage. Measure the system to the barrel.

Then measure on a printed for ratios. apply the same ratio of the fore end to the action and you will have your measurement. AI could probably do it for you in a couple of seconds if you told it how long a lee seed enfield was

Yep - I've done those rough sums. Just keen to see what some actual forends out there are.

About 2.75 magazines seems common. ;)

Do you want a photo of each one or just length from front of action to end of tip ?

@Sarg - both photos and length from front of action to end of tip would be awesome.

If that's too much hassle, I'd appreciate the measurement.

I've seen a few of your pictures, always happy to see them again.

;-)

Thanks

Mark

ps - I think I recall you divide your time between Australia and NZ - but if you happen to be in Oz on 31 Oct ....

Not sure if you've seen AUSTRALIA: Get together near Melbourne

Awesome - thanks a lot @Sarg

Don’t laugh - a long shot - but would you happen have a spare rare sight in your parts bin?

Hahaha
I would put more laughing in there to, I have killed to get some of the sights I do have to finish projects & need a few more yet.

I have rescued twisted up ribs from gunsmiths bins (and still had to pay for them) bought scrape rifles to get sights & paid more than some rifles for those sights, I even filed up my own front sights as you just about never find a fore sight !

So I find sights cut in half by some Dick who wanted the back half then use the bits to fix another or weld up a whole rear to file up another standing sight, just got one like that recently.

Nothing is ever as quick or easy as Larry Potterfield makes it look :ROFLMAO:, but I somehow got there.

I do have some performance anxiety about the shaping job that now awaits me.

Still fine tuning the stock.

Had some good procurement wins this week.

Found a Recknagel one standing / one folding express rear sight and base, a front sight, purportedly from an old Lee Enfield sporter that might get a bit of reshaping, a dust cover and bolt with safety.

Nice and trim Mark, coming along nicely.
That thing will point like a GSP (y)

I'm underway with a project, and looking for a spot of help from the Lee Speed owners here.

I've got a somewhat pedestrian Boyd's SMLE stock set, that I'm looking to reshape along Lee Speed sporter lines.

The cheekpiece and monte carlo comb have been successfully amputated.

Wrist / grip still needs to go on a diet.

I'm now turning my mind to the forend.

I'd appreciate anyone who is able, to take and share the measurement (A) from your Lee Speeds.

Thanks in Advance.

You are going to have sore hands after all that sanding. Who is going to do the checkering for you. A lice 22lpi would look good.
Bob

Hey Bob - I’m an 18 LPI man.

;-)

Yep - i’m doing my sanding / filing in controlled doses to maintain concentration and avoid RSI.

;)

Cleaning up the metal work at present - might even have a go at the blueing myself.

Got a few options for checkering - not sure who it will end up with.

After about 15 drinks of alkanet, I’ve just started with the finishing oil on the stock today.

@Tintin
Mark my gunsmith does beautiful checkering and always has something that needs blueing.
I'm sure the would blue those parts at minimal amount
It may pay you to give him a call
He is out at Rylstone NSW and has built 4 custom rifles for me.
He is also the best around when it comes to old smle and Enfield actions. An artist in all things gun related bot wood and metal

Thanks Bob - he sounds good.

I'm averse to shipping projects around the country, unless I really have to.

I've got good 'smiths and stockmakers relatively local.
