On a ammo note. Whats considered a good supply of solids and aframes?
I haven't tried any of the Hammers, but I hear good things about them. That is fair. Im sure to get that extra 50 grains they would be way long! I have looked at the hammer bullets as well but haven’t bought any. Yet
I want to try them but its hard to take a bullet that doesnt have a ton of info on it on a expensive hunt just to find out they dont work the best.I haven't tried any of the Hammers, but I hear good things about them.
Agreed. Perhaps a few management animals to act as guinea pigs.I want to try them but its hard to take a bullet that doesnt have a ton of info on it on a expensive hunt just to find out they dont work the best.
That’s what feral hogs are for, just shoot the big ones head on.Agreed. Perhaps a few management animals to act as guinea pigs.

Agreed. My apologies @swoobieSorry everyone I didn't intend to hijack the thread. @swoobie is trying to find some 404 Jeffery rounds. I have some to offer, but they are loaded a bit hotter than he was looking for. Mine are loaded to 2350 fps with 400 grain TSX and he is looking for something closer to the 2150 range. Hendershots or Aria Ballistic Engineering are my suggestions for custom loads.
Yes that might have to be what it is. Take a trip to texas or something and find out how they work on wild hogs.Agreed. Perhaps a few management animals to act as guinea pigs.
Oof. Thats like $4500 in breakaway solids and a frames. Gonna have to slowly build that up.To me, it feels good to at least have 500 of each on hand with 100 loaded rounds of each solids and softs ready to work.
As long as they come out with some components!I was told a few months ago that Swift will no longer be making loaded ammunition for the .404j, only bullets due to the varying chamber dimensions found on .404j rifles.
Thats what I have been hearing from more than one PH that the new bonded ones are good to go. So, wanted to hear the issues that OP had.I had excellent results with the 404 Jeffery Hornady DGX bonded on Australian buffalo. Would not hesitate to use them.
MidwayUSA had the Hornady .404J ammo in stock last I saw. It’s about what’s available rather than what’s ideal but always OOS or vaporware.I had excellent results with the 404 Jeffery Hornady DGX bonded on Australian buffalo. Would not hesitate to use them.
Use the Hornady for practice and then reload with what you like to hunt withMidwayUSA had the Hornady .404J ammo in stock last I saw. It’s about what’s available rather than what’s ideal but always OOS or vaporware.
One option is to “bite the bullet” (no pun) and buy a couple of boxes of Hornadys where they’re in stock. Then pull the bullets, dump the powder, and reload with your preferred powder and bullets.
I did that with one box of Hornady’s DGXs. I reloaded Hawk Bullets 400grn RT SP (.035 JT) over Varget at original .404 velocities.
