I am not the seller but thought this would be of interest. From the late 80's to mid-2000s Marvin was the premier custom gun case maker in the US. I know he tried hard to find someone to take over his avocation but it never really took with anyone. Now his shop and tools are all for sale here in Kansas City.

What a grand opportunity for a young craftsman just starting out in life. The trades are finally respected again in the marketplace. Here is a product safe from being copied by China, or supplanted by AI.

I know of a homeschooling community to inform about this.
Also, a gunsmithing school (Trinidad?) could be interested.

Marvin Huey's fine work deserves a worthy successor. I hope we at AH can help that happen!

What an awesome opportunity for someone, not me because I suck at anything wood working and gun cases out of 1/2” A36 plate just don’t seem to have a market! I’d love to have those skills though. Reminds me of when that stock duplicator was listed on here, I had to come to terms with my utter lack of woodworking skills so I didn’t buy it!

Now show me a young person in America that can….

Afford to buy it outright.

Can get a bank to loan them the money at 12%interest and 20% down.

Or have parents that are wealthy enough to buy it for them but not slap the shit out of their child for doing something so low to the family name as being a gunsmith.

The trades are again respected, too bad this nation has spent the last 40 years destroying any path to them.

Someone should have taken over that business, and had a skilled livelihood but sadly it will most likely be parted out and sold off.

Then what's your better idea?

Unfortunately the real value was in his experience and skill not the equipment. It’s a shame no one was Marvin’s Mentee before his passing.
All true, but we cannot change that. Marvin's legacy tools should carry on, and it's just a matter of finding one worthy candidate. There are wealthy individuals on AH who could snap up this treasure trove for either their own collection or for somebody's "scholarship".

You should do just that.

I wish I had known. I have two friends that would have gladly protected with him. They’re working very low paying seasonal jobs in historic carpentry right now.

I would think that there are workers from the now closed FEI gun case business that could do this.

My idea…. Shut down teachers unions and hold universities accountable, pass legislation requiring all scholarships to include trade schools.

Make trade classes count as extended education credits, after all if you take AP classes for algebra and other worthless bullshit then why not welding and lathe operation?

A worthy notion.
One can just leave it at that, OR outline several reasons why it'll never fly, as you did my post.

What I meant by "Then what's your better idea?" regarded the disposition of Marvin Huey's tools, not education reform.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
