I’m looking for a gunsmith who can rebore/rechamber a Ruger Safari Magnum from .375 H&H to .404 Jeffery.

I know @Bonk had Randy Selby do this conversion on an RSM in the past. I contacted Randy, but unfortunately he told me he no longer offers that conversion.

My preference is specifically to rebore the original barrel rather than rebarrel the rifle, as I’d like to retain the factory barrel and original RSM appearance.

Has anyone had an RSM or similar safari rifle
with an integral rib rebored to .404 Jeffery recently? I’d appreciate any current leads on a gunsmith who has experience with this type of conversion.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe contact JES reboring. They have a sparse website but I’ve spoken with them about another project and this seems like something they could do.

I think you may need to have bolt face opened up for 404. The action and magazine should be long enough. However, shoulder diameter for 375 is significantly wider than 404. I expect that will create problems ... as in adding metal to feeding rails.

It will definitely need to be reworked by a smith. Going to be more than just the rebore

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
Gents, if you book and pay your deposit before the end of this year , you can have the bigger cull package for the 2026 price! https://www.africahunting.com/threa...griffiths-safaris-starting-at-us-2-560.96285/
