Curious about Sako safari offerings

If I can get them to cycle as smoothly and shoot as accurately as the Sakos - I would then consider them nicer rifles due to the true Mauser controlled round feed action. At that point what really separates them from a Rigby?
My CZ cycles noticeably smoother at this point (many years on) than a number of the 98 Mauser actioned customs i've cycled. But yes, in some cases from back-when nothing separates them from a Rigby, here's a BRNO actioned .375 rifle from Rigby:

I submit this as exhibit A. They may not appreciate in value like a Rigby, but they can certainly be just as functional

I have a lot of Sakos, both older & newer models, I wouldn’t run a newer - 75 or 85 on DG as I have seen so many causing problems for my hunters & a couple of mine with standard calibers if I have the scope nice & low, as you can on these because of the low bolt lift, one of my only complaints but a serious one.

We had a loaner Sako .375H&H on the L61 long action & it was great & never failed, I didn’t love it as being a push feed but it never failed & was a client rifle so was Ok, if a little light for them & gave a good push & the odd cut eye.

I have always wanted an early Sako Safari in .375 H&H like this but keep missing them.

Any AV's, Sir?

Yes, but only the little fellas in 17Rem - 222Rem & 223Rem right now L461 & AI.

I have a boltless action I’m going to do a .350 Legend on I think & use a bolt between two rifles.

I sold two of them off as I needed funds for other guns & hunting lol

That happens to the best of us!

Hi, with problems are you referring to ejection issues or some other problems?

That ejection issue with 85 is really disappointing, as discussed in other threads there are ways around it but really should not be there in the first place. Maybe even more disappointing is that Sako never really admit or handle the issue in any way.

I have been fortunate. All four of my Sako 85's provided 100% dependable strong ejection. No issues what so ever.

I'm not looking to buy one, but i'm curious about the Sako brand in safari calibres. In my part of the world - western Canada - they are a common offering in the .375 H&H calibre. I'd go so far to say that i see more of these being offered in this calibre than i do the Model 70. The rifles typically look like standard 'working man's' production guns, perfectly decent/good outward quality but nothing that stands out about them. Typically, the asking price is considerably higher than average for standard production rifles in .375 from the other celebrated mainstream makers (Winchester, CZ, Ruger for instance.) Not infrequently in the $3000 range around here for a plain looking offering that might be asking for $2,000 in the equivalent in other brands. This morning for instance there is one up at this price (3K) with an unattractive (to my eye) laminate stock. Premium prices for a basic production gun.

Curiosity piqued, i'm interested for educational purposes what this rarified crowd has to say about these rifles. Is there something about them warranting the higher asking prices in production rifles?

It’s tough to see so many nice 375 options in the US for great deals, as compared to our market up here. Sometimes there are a few diamonds in the rough though! But we carry on…. Also not adverse to importing the right Us rifle either….

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
