Anybody here into wood working?

I was putting the finishing touches on a white oak vanity getting ready to put some finish on it before delivery and was wondering if anyone here was into woodworking either professionally or as a hobby? If so what do you like to make as a hobbyist or if you’re a professional what are you doing more of these days? Also I have a feeling there are some fellow Festool addicted people here

My company makes woodworking equipment, so please people get into woodworking, buy my equipment and help finance my burgeoning safari habit...

I just today learned who your company is! (I know your products really well!) It was a dream for me to own your smallest log mill for my own purposes, the 1220. I have a 13'x52' loft over my garage with a hoist, wood racks, etc. I chop down trees all the time to improve my forest and they are literally sitting on the forest floor rotting, rather than air drying in my loft for 5-7 years. Cherry, walnut, maple, etc. Its a horrible waste of an amazing resource.

I'm suffering the consequences of a century of high deer numbers, low stem count, and limited sunlight in my forest that makes for outstanding timber, but a terribly unhealthy forest.

I'm a mediocre woodworker, but a fairly decent trim carpenter. I'd probably do raised panels, crowns, chair rails, and tray ceilings once I have enough dimensional hardwood lumber cured and ready for use. It's my retirement plan for a hobby.

What is your company?

I love woodworking. I haven't done anything as involved as the cabinet you posted a picture of. I'm severely handicapped by the lack of a workshop. I have to do everything on my deck which means a lot of time spent setting up and packing away tools and wood. I'm also limited significantly by the weather.

We are going to either move or renovate the house in the next couple of years and workshop space is high on the list of must haves.

We have two companies: TimberKing makes sawmill equipment and Woodmaster Tools makes planers, sanders and molding machines. All in the good ol US of A.

Didn't Woodmaster used to be the legendary Belsaw brand?

I've dreamed of one for years, I'm just not ready for it yet. In retirement, I'm going to have one without a doubt.

I'm not an avid woodworker per se but I am fortunate to have a really good friend with a nice workshop in the top of his barn that I have access to. Whenever he & the wife go on vacation, I'll go sleep on their couch, make sure the menagerie of pets all survive & work on emptying their pantry & liquor cabinet. It's a nice quid pro quo arrangement.

So sometimes when I see something made out of wood that has an exorbitant price tag on it, I'll make a judgement call on whether I can create a reasonable copy for a fraction of the cost. I have to move slow & rely on a lot of intuition since I'm not exactly a master craftsman.

The last project I did was a rack for my stereo system. I went looking through the wood piles for any scrap oak I could find:



I planed it down to a standard set of dimensions:



Slicing a sheet of 3/4" (19mm) cherry plywood into 6 equal sheets gave me three 1.5" (38mm) thick shelves when I doubled them & glued them together. Most of the assemblage was done with dowels & a biscuit joiner:



The finished rack before varnishing. It's very solid & heavy to minimize vibrations & has aluminum isolation cones on the bottom of each leg to minimize contact with the floor:



It worked really well for keeping my equipment organized. I also made the speaker stands with isolation spikes on the bottom. I filled their interior with lead weights & sand and added a cork top. So they're pretty solid too. I don't own a TV. I listen to a lot of music while I write computer code all day.

I really enjoy woodworking but I’m not very good at it. I pretty much confine myself to building bluebird boxes and wood duck/blackbellied whistling duck nest boxes. They don’t seem to mind my lack of skill.
My father was a gifted woodworker, he made a lot of our furniture and tables for my taxidermy.

Well it's a long story but the quick answer is that Woodmaster is indirectly descended from the Belsaw woodworking line and TimberKing is a direct continuation of the Belsaw sawmill line.

That looks great! I am lucky enough (maybe unlucky enough somedays) to do this professionally. It’s a practice of repetition and careful layout and planning are the keys to success. I still feel like an amateur somedays lol.
