NM Coues Deer insight / books?

Hello All,

My boy drew a youth Burrow Mountain deer tag in SW New Mexico. It is our first year as residents and we know nothing about Coues. Any general Coues advice, books or other resources we should look into? Anyone familiar with unit 23 /Burro Mountains? I'm assuming there being plenty of space for the number of hunters and we just need to get up high and glass, glass, glass, but if any of you folks have better suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated!
 
From my limited experience hunting them in Arizona a few times, bring the best glass you can get, and high magnification is key in ny opinion. They move early when it’s hot and they bed down pretty quickly after first light so you need to be there to spot them pretty quickly. Once you find one and he settles down you stand a decent chance of killing one as long as you can keep the wind in your favor and get with in shooting range quickly. But my biggest take away has been, glass,glass, glass and more glass. And early when it’s hot.
 
We are heading out now to get our first eyes on the Area so we will keep that in mind. His hunt’s not till the end of November, so I don’t know what the situation would be like then.
 
I’ve hunted them a lot living in Arizona. TDSmith is correct, use the best glass you can and preferably from a tripod. Glass slow, they are easy to miss. Be where you want to glass from before the sun comes up.
 
Another thing I have learned, again take it for what it is worth from someone who doesn’t hunt them every year, but if you are seeing groups of doe and fawns, the bucks are elsewhere.
