Must be nice…

It’s insane how jealous and petty some people are! Why make someone feel bad for being able to afford things they are passionate about? It always makes me think those people are lazy also, if you want to do those things, work harder and make it happen.

I told my wife this recently, the money we send on Disney almost every year I could have been to Africa already several times.
 
It's the same everywhere. I'm just the produce manager in a grocery store but I hunt internationally at least once a year. I hear it all the time from the same people that call in sick at least every 2 weeks. Rarely get a 40 hour check while I average 50.
They buy Starbucks multiple times a day and all have newer cars.
My newest car is a 2011 and I haven't had a car payment in nearly 20 years now. I tell people I refuse to go to work to pay for what I drive to work.
But I do enjoy my life to the fullest

My dad was an owner of a successful small business, seeing him have to be everywhere all the time, didnt matter if it was weekends, late at night, vacations, broke foot, when there is a problem, he had to take care of it. Unless you live with it, you dont understand the commitment it takes.
 
I hear "Must be nice" about veterans and their benefits a lot as well. About GI bill usage, disability, retirement, etc.

What's funny is, as much as I've heard people say that line and complain about veterans and their benefits, for all the years I've heard it, enlistment hasn't changed noticeably.

Active serving members including reservists is 1% of the US population (often even lower), all surviving veterans stays between about 5-7% of the US population.

You'd think with how "nice" the benefits are the lines at the recruiting stations would be running out the door every day.
 
I get regular comments from my customers about the trips I go on, and “I wish I had the time to get away”. Well, I make the time by working my ass off long days before and after a trip. And it’s funny that nobody comments on the long hours or working weekends to get things done, when those guys are part timing their full time job. You guys struck a nerve with me tonight.

Pop was a WW2 vet and I'm all in for those benefits. In fact, I think they should get more. There IS a line waiting to get in some of the services. Grandson waited fourteen months after signing up to go to basic. Just graduated last week, eight hundred in that class.

And that even when they are successful you just sit back, smoke $100 cigars and watch the money roll in....

Because no one has ever had anything go wrong ever in the history of business. My dad always says his first job is being a General Contractor, his second hob is being a firefighter with all the fires he has to out:ROFLMAO:
 
I rarely talk about hunting even with people that know me well. If someone asks me about it then of course I will discuss it. Guys at church will come up and ask me about it, which is fine with me. If I hear anything like "must be nice" I will say something like that new truck or that dove lease really adds up. I will share that I don't have a hunt lease, boat/truck payment or Starbucks daily habit. I've been able to get several people to visit Africa based on that approach.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
