I can’t remember country, maybe most countries… but seems kind of a big deal about entering with cremains without proper paperwork. A dear friend has requested that I spread some of their ashes in Scotland in a pretty place of my choosing. I guess I’ll cross that smuggling bridge when I get to it.

(1) In a Tibetan 'sky burial', your corpse is dismembered and thrown to vultures (who gather daily for the feast).

(2) 'The Guardian', today, has some photographs of Ghanaian coffins, in the shape of a crab, fish, truck, tomato, teapot, pineapple, and whale shark.

Buried? Nah can't see it happening unless you were someone of importance to the locals there.
Cremated? Certainly, can't see the problem with spreading ashes over the location you fell.
 
It is a bit different situation, but a very good friend of mine passed from cancer before we were able to get to Africa. I brought some of his ashes to Nyakasanga with me and spread them into the wind at the end of the hunt. Felt that he was with me all along the hunt.

I am sure if one dies on a Safari he could get cremated locally and ashes spread.

I told my wife bury me in a pine box that I’m going to build, get me in the ground on my farm, take the money that you would spend at mortuary have a party or go on a trip!!! funeral homes are a RIPOFF preying on people at there lowest moment
 
A VA briefing officer I heard said take the cheapest route possible. Vets get buried in a Nat. cemetery. If your family gives you any grief, ask them two questions:
1. How often are you going to visit?
2. How am I going to know you are there?

I agree with keeping it simple. Being buried on your own place lets you rest in peace.

I don’t consider funeral homes a RipOff. They provide a service and it’s an industry. Not one I want to work in.

Expensive yes. But they are still employing people and paying taxes.

Nort Africa but a senior police friend of mine tells a lovely story.

Back in the 1990s in Hamburg, Germany, the desk officer came in to his office and told him he needed to come an talk to an elderly lady that had come in to the station. Which he did.

Turns out that her husband had died whilst holidaying in Spain. My friend expressed his sympathies and asked where he deceased husband was now?
¨In the camper van outside,¨ was her reply.

He had died in his sleep in bed and she had tucked him in tight and then drove from Spain thru France, Belgium, The Netherlands and into Germany up to Hamburg. Some 2.750 kms overnighting once or twice on route!

Not wanting to start a battle of paperwork with the Spanish Consulate and more, my friend asked if he could put in the report that her husband had died whilst vacationing in Germany. She was happy with that and the coroner was called in to issue a death certificate.

In a similar vein to the previous tale I was told the following while in South Africa recently.

A South African family were holidaying in Mozambique. They awoke one morning to discover that grandfather had left the building so to speak. There was sadness, sorrow followed by consternation amongst them.

Dealing with the authorities if one dies outside your country of residence is difficult. I imagine tenfold dealing with them in Africa. Repatriating a body must be equally if not more difficult.
So they decided to bundle grandpa wrapped up in the boot and drive back to S. Africa.

All went well and they crossed the border without any major event. They had to stop at a hotel overnight as it was a long drive. The next morning car and grandpa were gone ! Consternation and panic set in until some family member thought out of the box.

They reported the car stolen and grandpa abducted in it. He never resurfaced and they were saved the funeral expenses. Which was I’m sure one of the last things on their minds at the time.

I would have liked to see the robbers faces when they opened the trunk of the car.
