.375 H&H for Lower 48 Game

I have used a 30-06 hunting white tailed deer in Ausable Michigan ( UP). One deer I hit blew a big enough hole to put my coffee cup through. To me that was excessive damage. I prefer a lighter cartridge such as the 6.5x55 or the 7x57. I know bullets have a lot to do with how much damage is done to an animal. I have had good luck with 140g in my swede and 154g in my 7x57. I would use a 30-06 on deer in the future but I would be alot more particular about the shot and use a 180g bullet.

A combination of both ruins a lot of meat as well
My Whelen with a 200gn FTX at 3,000 fps ruins farm more meat than my 25 with a 117gn SST at 3,300+ fps and this in turn ruins more meat than my 222 REM with a 55gn Hornady SX at 3,100 fps. So all combinations ruin meat but the 35 ruins the most.

I've been asked what do you hunt with that .375, my reply is anything I darn well please. If I start it, I can finish it! :ROFLMAO:
 
Does anyone have experience with 235 Speer Hot Core on whitetail sized game? We need to cull a lot of does to meet our game and fish biologist recs on our farm. To get some reps in with my 375 H&H I was considering trying these bullets with a light charge and find a sweet spot at lower velocities. The Speer manual says a start charge of IMR 3031 or IMR 4895 gets 2478 and 2420, respectively. Seems like that could be a good combination for whitetail if accurate?
 
I've shot a lot of those bullet for practice but never hunted with them.
I remember a post from a member a while back who used 4895 to get 2600-2650 and was happy with them for deer - and maybe hogs.
I would certainly be happy to hunt deer or hogs with that bullet at 2600.
 
Hi,

"Hot Core" means nothing. Are marketing words. In theory, means the lead core was "poured" molten in the jacket instead of swaging cold the lead core and jacket together. Both are two ways to do the same thing. The molten and poured lead does not bonds to the jacket in any way.

Yeah, the wide selection of .375 bullets really makes the cartridge versatile. I haven’t pulled them out in a while but years ago I made up some “deer loads” using (as I recall) 200grn or 210grn SP bullets over Varget. I downloaded them to .30-06 “deer” velocities until settling on a load that was MOA accurate @ 100-yds.
