I know that most of us have heard the stories about PHC being a fraud, etc but he was the biggest influence that ignited my lifelong passion for Africa, and even took the time to write a young naive boy a letter back in 1983 all the way from South Africa

I will always be grateful to him and hold him in the highest regard

That is FANTASTIC! What an awesome memento to have - a few corrections, and a very strong signature to boot!.

Peter worked his butt off to 'make it' as a safari writer. I dare say more than a few of us owe him a debt of gratitude for introducing us to those exotic lands and people.

And as a collector of ephemera myself - that looks to be self-folding paper as well?

PHC inspired a generation of hunters to pursue their dreams of hunting in Africa, me included!

That letter should be professionally matted, framed, and put on the wall in your trophy room. It’s a unique, cool, and very personal conversation piece. I’m sure you cherish it.

Death in the long Grass… my first Safari book; purchased from a clean out sale at my Texas public middle school library for $1 back in 1997.
Thats funny, that is how I discovered Jim Corbett in the mid 1990s. The librarian knew I liked hunting and set aside a few books for me before they were thrown out.

Great memento! As others have said, I'd frame that nicely and hang it in my mixed trophy and bourbon room.
"veal chop in a Italian restaurant" and "transvestite astronaut" have much better chances 43 years later.

A treasure! Congrats and I agree that it should be professionally matted and framed. Would look great in an office or sporting room.

Yes! It was a single sheet of paper folded and stamped, no envelope

Hard to believe nowadays that an accomplished writer too the time to write back to a kid

The first book that got me started was "African Hunter" by JA Hunter which I remember reading in grade school, maybe 1979, then Death came along in 1977?

JA Hunters chapter on leopard , then PHCs chapter on leopard, ignited my passion for leopard which continues to this day. It took me until I was 48 to kill my first one in Zimbabwe, and then my last one 4 years ago in Zambia.
In between, I went on field studies with biologists in Israel and in Zim to study them. I can't learn enough about them

Here's the tattoo to prove the madness

All started when I was a child

Very cool!

Im a big fan of his books and dont care if they are all 100% true. Like none of us have ever embellished a hunting story to make it more exciting?

Reminds me of a news story from years ago, a little boy got in trouble with his mother and was grounded for a period of time he wrote the governor and asked for a pardon …..

The governor granted it!

I forget what state but I remember the governor being interviewed and when asked why he granted the pardon, he stated something like…

“I think it’s important that younger generations understand how the law works and appreciate it for what is.”

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew
