A Death Of Ethics: Is “Hunting” Destroying Itself?

"I myself am pro hunting when it can prove itself as a worthy asset to the conservation of species and ecosystems as a whole." That is a stupid thing to say. For one thing, the vast majority of hunting, one could probably argue all of it, does not exist outside of the "ecosystem". Many...

A Death Of Ethics: Is “Hunting” Destroying Itself?

There is nothing wrong with policing ethics. For one thing, some states do build laws around concepts like fair chase so that what are ethical standards have the force of law. So sure they are laws, but they are laws on hunting ethics, from the conservation perspective, it doesn't matter...

    Possibly dumb sling question

Something I like to do around the farm prior to hunting season is carry around an object about the weight and length of a rifle. I am looking for something less cold in the hands than the usual weighted pipe. Around here, carrying an unloaded rifle is not allowed, as it will traumatize the...

    Possibly dumb sling question

Is this a joke? I would have thought that classic (depends a lot on which period one regards as classic) was a gun bearer... I haven't experience with the rubberized slings, but if one is looking for support, I prefer something that is able to self adjust to the point where the thing holding...

Why are Weatherby guns in 375+ calibers not liked on a Safari?

I would agree that classic military rifles don't use the high comb designs. Nor that rifles I have in mind are probably copying Weatherby, just using similar principles. The first picture below googled up as the new Marine Sniper rifle. And similar things are all the rage for a lot of new...

Why are Weatherby guns in 375+ calibers not liked on a Safari?

Thanks for the detailed response. Superb scope and open sight alignment just isn't a thing. Obviously Ruger agrees, as they offer a lot of their "Tupperware" stocks with two combs to handle just such problems. I don't own a lot of rifles compared to many here, but I do own a No. 1, a Hawkeye...

Why are Weatherby guns in 375+ calibers not liked on a Safari?

Thank you for the benefit of the doubt, but I didn't know that at all. This makes me wonder to what extent when he had a small shop in Hollywood (?) whether he may have custom fit stocks for his wealthier clients. At some point the stuff starts coming from Japan, and that would be out the window.

    Australia for Retirement?

It is not the snakes one sees first that are the problem. Well, seems there are a few take-charge species out there... Folks, with doubtless years of experience, are always saying they won't bother you, if you don't bother them. Unfortunately, I am still seeking out the snake that will...

    Back country carry gun

Very bad direction on medical murders, however, that is what happens anyway, and has been happening all along. Most of the "died quietly in their sleep" stuff is people who are having augmentation of medication until they shut down. Or they say they can't treat your condition because it...

    Back country carry gun

Canadian Conservatives regulated handguns out of existence 60 ish years ago, when other places like the UK were doing the same thing. The Cunuckistan thing had not taken root yet. And to an extent it hasn't taken root at this point given that only 12% of Canadians voted for the A-hole. That...

    Australia for Retirement?

World class medical treatment didn't hold up too well during the pandemic. I think to a certain extent one needs to look forward to a different world than the one in the past, with different people in charge. The US still has the best constitutional protections. In many respects a two state...

    Back country carry gun

That is a nice holster concept. I like to make Yaquis. That is a nice minimal rig. looks very practical.

    Back country carry gun

Very well explained. However, I would disagree on the "deliberate" bit. That classic case where one holsters the gun with the trigger in the trigger guard, that gun is going off; In the famous video, of FBI officer zero, shooting himself in the leg in front of a classroom of people, that...

    Back country carry gun

I believe the actually reason for the 21 foot rule was to make a convincing argument in court. There is a grain of truth to it, but the rule aspect is for the benefit of the people in the 12 cheap seats. The flip side is when you do get a bunch of shots, which has happened. But also, when the...

    Back country carry gun

Glock just got away with the safety thing because people were so busy trying to ban it as a plastic gun. LOL. Most guns don't go bang unless one pulls the trigger, and a lot of them won't fire if dropped. If NYC got anything right it was the NY safety on the Glock. Very, very, serious people...
