I'm a Merkel owner and agree with this post. Having said that, I purchased my Merkel for about a 1/4 of what a Heym would have cost so I don't think they are a fair comparison. I think availability and budget play a big factor when debating between these two.
Does anyone happen to know what the situation is for Canada. My understanding is that ivory cannot be imported under any circumstances but would you be allowed to import the hide and skull an exportable trophy bull or is no part of the elephant permissible?
Not sure your point, there are others on that list who don't make every single component themselves by hand. Winkler makes an amazing knife, but has a team that work under him. I don't ascribe to the philosophy that an item made by just one single person is necessarily better than one made by two.
Congrats on the purchase. I have a merkel too but have not looked into adding barrels. While I was searching for my double I found that merkel in Germany ware super responsive. I would give them a serial number and they would give me a lot more info about the rifle than many of the prospective...
If you can stomach the 7 year wait list you can get a custom made Randal that's hand forged and you can customize it to instill a lot of meaning to you and yours.
Merkel 450/400NE, much thanks to @Longwalker who gave me a great deal on it.

Victor Sarasqueta 12ga...not a DG gun at all but I think an awesome way to celebrate a successful DG hunt would to follow it up with some wing shooting.
Would love to know the difference in your 2 Krieghoff .470's. It's the double I originally wanted but it was out of my budget and so I went with a great deal on a Merkel 450/400
Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops are massive stores usually decorated with a lot of taxidermy and an aquarium. If you're not used to that sort of thing where you are from it might be worth checking out.
I'm in the middle of a move but once I'm settled in I think I will put it up in the pay it forward thread. I have benefited greatly from the knowledge of the members on this forum so it would be a nice way to express gratitude.
Alas I went with a custom order because I didn't want the steel shank so I can't return them. The toe box is fine it's the heel slipping. I'm not a fan of trying to fix ill fitting footwear with socks and insoles, especially if I'm intending to walk 10+ miles a day, but I appreciate the advice...
