CAMEROON: Hunt With Celtic Safaris Jan-Feb 2017

Sorry for late reply hadn’t been on forum in a while. The Spaniards and I only hunted the same zone, there were other clients we never saw in the other zone. I have no idea if there were more or less roan in the other zone. I also had no security concerns at all, but that was almost 2 years ago...

CAMEROON: Hunt With Celtic Safaris Jan-Feb 2017

My hunt started last week of January, crossing over into February. It didn’t seem all that hot to me, thinking it was 80’s maybe getting into low 90’s. Someone did measure it, I think 43.5 inches was what they said. I’m not that much into scores as taking a good mature specimen.

    Hunting prices 2018 v. 2019

You never know what's going to happen. Not just prices, or your health. Wars and revolutions break out, countries close to hunting, home countries suddenly ban importation. Go whenever you can while you still can.

The Right Accessories for an African Hunt

Each time I go I take less gear, and I carry less on my person. As memory goes this last time I kept in pockets: Avon skin so soft with DEET &sunscreen Pocket camera Headnet (anti-mosquito) Wet-wipes and Kleenex Hand sanitizer On belt (in pouches) Flashlight Multi-tool Moleskin Small...

    Going it alone.............

I've gone 3 times, and have gone alone every time. I'd have no problem traveling with a friend, but we'd have to have set up a 2x2 hunt, or even a bigger group, but the only way I'd only share a PH would be with a family member.

    Tick Bite Fever

Picked up a case myself in '08, diagnosed myself but got doxy into my system within 24 hrs of onset of symptoms. Was a bit like the flu, but back to normal within 72 hrs. Was at a Trauma, Critical Care conference this past week and met a doc from RSA, he'd seen a case in their ICU that had been...

    Pre64 Model 70, 30-06 to 458

I found a smith nearby that should be able to do it either way. I've decided to keep it simple and just stick with the 458 Win Mag. However I've had a move in the meantime, and the barrel is stuck in a storage unit. Saw someone else mention a 404; long before I bought the pre64 in question I...

Weird stuff to bring for tips / gratuities

In Cameroon I left behind batteries, Avon skin so soft, zip ties, and then the item that really got them excited: duct tape.

CAMEROON: Hunt With Celtic Safaris Jan-Feb 2017

Actually bongo is what I'm thinking of next. Maybe get lucky and get a sitatunga on same trip. As I think about it, I've taken 2 spiral horns on all 3 of my safaris.

    Federal Premium Ammunition

Had great success with TBBC's from Federal in my 375 on my last hunt. Just an FYI, if you buy more than one box, check carefully to make sure they're the same. Not sure they do this with all bullets, but in 375 H&H they have 2 different loads of the TBBC, one at 2400 fps and another at 2500 fps.

CAMEROON: My Hunt In Cameroon For Lord Derby Eland

Nicely done! Eland hunts are special, especially LDE.

    Recommendation for Shooting Sticks/Tripod

When I said I bought 5 poles, I made both a bipod and a tripod.

    Recommendation for Shooting Sticks/Tripod

That's pretty much what I did except I used bamboo sticks. Five 6 ft bamboo poles, one package of 2 vacuum cleaner belts, less than $10.00 from Lowe's. I also wrapped the tops with tennis racquet grip tape to help prevent scratches of the stock.

Holy Crap, I Like Adventure As Much As The Next Guy, But This Is A Little Much.....

Just an opinion, Cameroon outside of the far north and maybe far west is pretty safe right now, but before too long it may not be. Part of why I recently went on my LDE hunt. Even before it becomes unsafe, refugees and herders might get pushed into the eland areas. My point is if LDE is on...
