Handling a Double Rifle by Professional Hunter Mark Sullivan

Nice rifle

I realize many people idolize this guy and he is supposed to be a "master" at his craft. I found much of his video basically appalling.

1.) he handles his gun unsafely. You never put a closed gun against your shoulder in a horizontal position. He then twirls around aiming a closed gun at the camera. Douchbag move.

2.) as he bloviates about his special custom built rifle, he omits the fact the gun doesn't fit him as it is obviously too long.

3.) he describes the ready position and it is the wrong position. The muzzle is supposed to be aimed at chest level as you walk so the butt can rise from under your shoulder pocket in the briefest of motions. Not aimed at the ground like he does. If the gun was properly balanced and of correct length it wouldn't be muzzle heavy and therefore wouldn't be naturally aimed at the ground.

4.) he doesn't know how a tang safety is to work so he gushes ignorance. You don't use your thumb to operate a tang safety, you Knick it with your first knuckle UNLESS you have a junk gun that is too stiff and therefore requires you to use more horsepower by using your thumb. Your hand is in the wrong position if you have to use your thumbprint to thrust the safety.

5.) he talks absolute jibberish about recoil pad dimensions and how they should be 5.5" which is total hogwash. Nowhere in books on gunfit is there such a rudimentary prescription for such a profoundly complicated subject as it relates to a progression of the stock geometry which is predicated by the needed dimensions to support the recoil at the head and wrist of the stock.

In conclusion, the more this guy talks the more it's obvious his ego is greater than his knowledge. Maybe he is a great PH but he doesn't have even journeyman gun knowledge which is probably why he talks about a Heym like its something special when it's a middle of the road functional tool (one of the uglier tools) that is inferior to 99% of the British double rifles ever made. I especially like that he uses the most egocentric, rough kicking, obnoxious .577 nitro when the ballistics and bullet selection is vastly superior for every other caliber. But he has to be macho even if the data says he's spitting in the wind.

as a hand gunner i wont comment on his double expertise or lack of,but as stated earlier, any hunter who wounds an animal purposely to get it to charge for a more exciting video is not a hunter,he or she is dog shit garbage and i hope the next time he or she does it i hope the animal creates the ultimate,exciting, death charge,that of he or she getting horned,tusked,or clawed to death. that would be a video ill buy and play often.a best seller.

@rookhawk DONT BE JEALOUS AND DONT BE A HATTER and the safety is a thumb safety I never ever seen anybody use a freaking knuckle to engage a safety you say Mark is unsafe that knuckle thing that you just made up is the most unsafe crap I ever heard seems like you have a lot of time on your hands watch Marks movies so you can learn from the master
