.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

On the point of optics, I’m not a fan of seeing the barrel and sight like you can with the straight tubes Leupold 1-5x.

Valid point though on the double rifle with iron sights.

I can not see my front sights or can with my rifle. I am not sure what you are talking bout.

I would not lug a suppressor on a Buffalo hunt. Too many miles of thick brush. I would wear ear noise suppression. Like Walkers or better.

Here is a .22 caliber rifle with a huge for caliber can. It’s a banish 30 multi caliber can. I had to look out of curiosity and I didn’t think I could see the barrel or can.

Something is amiss in the ill advised dog scoping picture.

I struggled lining up the tube of the scope with my phone so you can see some shadowing inside the scope.

the barrel and suppressor are nowhere in view just as I thought. Is that scope dialed for 1200 yards ?

It’s easier to install a muzzle brake than it is to have your rifle fitted correctly, learn proper shooting form and practice accordingly.

Well that's a great option for some folks. Me personally, I don't like fooling with circumaural muffs as they can be a bit cumbersome. I have custom plugs made but those can be annoying as well. Suppressors for me are the best option.

I would err on the side of longer barrel for 375 H&H since it may be called upon for the longer shots at larger PG as well as DG. Plus, I would want all the power/velocity I could squeeze out of it. YMMV

For example, when i put my cheek to the stock, i don't really see the scope rear frame. Just the view.
It also exacerbates the interference of the stock and the can.

For those mentioning lugging a can - I'm in agreement on being mindful of weight. But taking the suppressor is worth it to me. The cut removed from the barrel makes it about 6-8 oz lighter, the can weighs 15 oz. Delta of 7 oz. increase.

The overall length of the rifle with can installed is just under 47"
I would challenge anyone to detect the difference if blindfolded compared to a stock config.

Agree. Some of these folks acting like all cans are a foot long and weigh 3lbs. Believe it or not, there are some very good shorter lightweight titanium options available these days.

I get it. I was not a fan until I tried them.

I'm still the same way about electric cars but more unlikely to adopt.

My 375 Ruger has a 20” barrel and I really like this rifle, however I prefer my Model 70 Stainless Classic with a re-contoured 24” barrel. It be always thought of a 375 as a hunting rifle instead of a stopping rifle, and as such prefer the 24” length.

For me I felt it was a wee bit too long, I’d knock off 2”.

I’ve worn electronic ear plugs for years and they have improved greatly over the years.
My hearing has continued to worsen for more than a decade but more than 50 years of flying airplanes and competitive shooting as well as inherited genetics has taken there toll! The custom electronic ear plugs enhance my hearing allowing me to communicate on the range and in the bush but instantly give me silence when I encounter a noise greater than 92db. For me they are as essential as a fine rifle or top line binoculars or scope!
Four years ago they saved my butt in an encounter with a Gemsbok that came on a full charge out of the brush at point blank range and neither my tracker or Ph heard him coming and by pure luck none of us became a shish kebab on those 50 inch horns, and the only injury was a sore right hand from shooting a 375 gangster style ito stop him!
The three of us were more than rattled.

I’ve got a BRNO .375 with the factory 25” barrel, plan is to have it cerakoted, synthetic stock & 3 position safety as an all weather rifle.

Question being, for you guys that have had several different barrel lengths of .375’s; what’s your preference on barrel length?

I have used in S A for plain game a Winchester super express in 375 with 24 barre

It doesn’t include the .375, but Match Grade Machine tested a few cartridges, where they cut off an in of barrel at a time and recorded the velocity.

Not to mention, they were being thrown out of perfectly good airplanes and hoped their parachutes worked.

If they landed intact, … well, there were Nazis to kill. No suppressors, no ear pro.

If you get to experience that once in a lifetime hunt in Africa, forget the can or, worse, the stoopid muzzle break. Just man-up and make your first shot the kill-shot.
