Greetings from Arizona. I just joined today after being taken to AH on a load data search. I have gotten back into hunting now for three years after a hiatus of nearly 20 years. All my hunting has been only on North America for elk, deer, bear, antelope (pronghorn), and other 'wee beasties'. I have been using my tactical TRG42 in .338 Lapua for my recent hunting. Lately I have been drawn to heavy and or obscure cartridges, and in very traditional blue and walnut bolt actions. I currently have a new worked up Montana AVR in .416 RUM and am thinking of another obscure cartridge like a .404 Jef., or other, in another rifle. Good luck to all of you in your hunting adventures.

Welcome to AH.
Enjoy your tenure here.

One day I may grab one of those TRG42's, just for fun.

Welcome to AH, @nw07heavy ,
I think that .338 Lapua will be great medicine for baboons over here in South Africa.
Enjoy your time here with us.

Take Care,
Marius Goosen

Welcome to AH! What part of town are you in? I work in Tempe but sleep in Chandler.

welcome!

Well you may shoot up at Usery then?

Hi Phil, Yes I often shoot at Usery Range. Lately the staff has had me move the Lapua to the .50 BMG booth at the north end due to blast. I hope to see you up there; let me know when you shoot, and I will see if I can get away.

Welcome to AH nw07heavy! Lots to discover and learn on the site, enjoy and glad you found us.

Hope to make it this Saturday. Thanksgiving weekend is devoted to a friend and his son who drew a late elk hunt. Give me a shout on my cell number in the signature below if you want to meet up. Got a .458 you shoot a bit and I might have some .375's loaded up too, not sure on that one, but maybe.

Yea, the .416 Ruger, or even the .375 Ruger. I nearly could not resist the urge for the left hand .375 Ruger, but fortunately I was bogged down with the .416 RUM. Very nice rifle, and congrats, and good on you! I have some 400 grain loads right at 2,600 fps and 350's at around 2,800 fps, and am currently trying different powders.

Let me see if I can have some ammo ready for the .416 RUM this Saturday. I'll give you a shout.

Hi bluey, It's been rough being a lefty! Seriously though, should you ever want a great rifle without the 'leftie tax' you may want to consider a Montana Rifle (same price right or left hand CRF). If you shop you can find a vendor with a great price.

sounds great , do you know any agents for them in Australia ,mate ........:D:D
I havnt seen one firearm the same price ,left or right handed , in the land of taxes and erratic government decision

IF YOU DON'T COME UP WITH ANY .458, I WILL TRY AND GET MY KID TO PACK SOME UP FOR YOU BUT PROBABLY WOUDN'T BE TILL THIS WEEKEND AND GO OUT NEXT WEEK.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
