Winchester model 70 safari express

It’s probably extremely shallow of me to say this, but I personally believe Winchester stopped being Winchester the day production was moved out of the USA and shifted to Portugal.

The quality of products and service of damn near every company in the firearms industry today is a sad reminder of the times. Part of the problem is all these companies were selling everything they could build, running production shifts 24 hours a day for 2-3 years during covid. All those shareholders got used to big dividend checks------Are you going to tell your shareholders they aren't getting paid as much going forward? NO, you cheapen your products, put different lipstick on the pig, call it whatever you want, but you try to salvage volume and margin. On some level I don't think most of the executives at the helm of these companies even care that what they are producing is garbage. And, sadly, some don't know any better because they've been recruited from other industries. Been in this industry for 25 years, it's a lot different than it used to be.

I don't know about the service aspect, but I can tell you one company that is making a sound comeback, and I couldn't be happier for them because I think they are an American icon as far as a brand. It's Weatherby, Sheridan WY. That new 307 action is for real, and they are building what people want. I'm not convinced I'd use for dangerous game because I'm a CRF snob, but I love that action for everything else.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
