Winchester Model 70... new or pre-64?

No, pre'64 Winchester Model 70 rifles are highly unreliable and pose more of a threat to the hunter using them rather than the game that they are being fired at.

Send yours over to me, right away. I'll properly dispose of it for you.

I have a 2008 special edition Winchester M70 30/06 I would consider selling if Interested. It is CRF, and was made in USA before they moved production to Portugal, but after the whole push feed fiasco. I’m the only owner

Daisy... I totally missed this comment! I ended up finding another rifle, but I really appreciate the post!

This is what I got him for Christmas…

Winchester Model 70 Alaskan .30-06

It’s a beautiful rifle in excellent condition.

Thank you, @bobdahunter84 for the link!

The current production M70’s are just as good if not better than the Pre64’s in terms of accuracy, and function. I think the fit is slightly better on the Pre64’s as it was all hand done vs mass production, but current production wood seems to be better unless you’re looking at some of the custom Pre64’s or Super Grades.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy either, and depending on his intended use and hunting application would probably lean more towards the current production 30-06 (unless it’s a Pre-War or a really good condition Pre64).

I say this as someone who’s a pretty big Winchester collector and probably has more Pre64’s than most gun owners have guns.
I used to think the same way until I held two different ones in my hand and saw horrific reviews. Beautiful looking rifle and I’d imagine some are fine. Fit,finish, bore finish, disqusting bolt on one. All poor. Also, one was a jeweled bolt while another was not. It’s a shame because they went back to CRF. Well sought of. I’m glad it didn’t work out to buy one.

I own seceral Win M70 classics. Two I bought were new in the factory boxes. One was a 7mm RM Classic Sporter and the other a 375 H&H Safari Express. Both, in factory form, were very accurate (sub MOA) and functioned perfectly.

I will say that I had both these restocked because the factory dimension don't work for me, but the rifles... no complaints at all.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
