Help Please! 500 NE 3 Inch bulging when I put the bullet in

Very sorry to read about your brother-in-law, hope he is recovering well.

Understand your POV, unfortunately you just made my point. You were using factory ammo. Remanufactured ammo / reloaded factory ammo all go through the same process (as new factory ammo). The difference is one uses new brass the other is recycled brass. With a pistol it is very easy to get a double charge in a case. That is my first thought, I would have sent to ammo back. So they could test out the lot, was it a one off or more issues than the one. Not that you would want to use any more of it, could save someone else from the same experience.
It was old and I have no idea where I bought it. Have been shooting it in MG with no issues until now.
The only reloads y’all will find me with are from Safari Arms from now on.

Have seen some crazy things happen, have seen same powder different lot shoot way hotter. Had always read or heard about never experienced it for 20+ years. Then found what was taken about. Made 50 rounds of the same ammo that I have always loaded. Went to the range and went from shooting sub 1/4moa to 1.5moa. Checked the velocities, was 125fps over what it should have been. Had to back of the charge a lot to make that lot work. Half way through the 8# bottle it was back to normal. Very crazy, I'm sure the same thing can happen to manufacturers too. You might test every lot, if a bottle was first or last in line. You may not only have that powder in your bottle (complete speculation on my part).

Time is our most precious commodity, if someone does not want to take up reloading 100% get it. Some of us want to know without a doubt that our system is running at peak performance. Everyone just has to figure out what works best for them.

Success! The new dies with the expander did the trick. Just finished reloading and very happy. After resizing the case I use the expander die then both seat and crimp. For the 500 BE I am finding I need to seat first then back out stem before I crimp. No more bulge. I will say I notice the brass will wear out sooner this way. However given I need to use Woodleigh given my 1908 DR brass early wear out to have my dream Westley Richards is a small price to pay

If the chamber is tight. Resizing isn`t needed. However like with a revolver I preferre the rounds to a bit on the loose side in a doublerifle too.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
