Just got my duck mount back from my 2022 duck trip.

The barnwood on dead mount come off a hog trailer from my families old farm.

@3chunter - nice taxidermy work and good choice having them mounted “dead” or “sitting” vs. flying. I’ve seen very few Flying waterfowl mounts that look natural. I now only do sitting or a dead mount and even then you really need to select the Right Taxidermist — much harder then doing a Deer Head. Nice Work on yours!!

Love it! I used to be obsessive about waterfowl hunting and I never did have any birds mounted. I kinda regret that. My goal for this winter is to collect several breeding plumage birds of various species to have mounted.

Did you hunt with an outfitter?

The mallards was a guide but the rest were on our own.

@Elkeater - gonna be difficult to get Ducks in “breeding plumage” - they hit their best colors is March-April (especially Greenwing Teal) and that’s a bit after the Season….but a 2nd year or older bird in January looks damn nice and I don’t think I could tell the difference between then and Spring.

True. Our season goes til the end of January here and while we don’t have a ton of birds the ones we do have are pretty close to breeding plumage. Or at least as close as I’ve seen during hunting season.

I love me a baldpate.

Where did the birds come from and who did the taxidermy?

The three birds that gave me fits trying to get in nuptial plumage were, northern shoveler, bluewinged teal and red breasted merganser. I finally got all three in late January.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
