If shooting a dozen shots for practice, I just shoot my Heym.
If shooting for groups or to check regulation of a load, the barrels should not be hot to touch. Try to keep conditions of all the shots consistant. Once a well-regulating load is found, reshoot the rifle with cold barrels a couple times to verify there is no change in points of impact or lfet to right group size.
I have been known to speed up the cooling process...
