Howdy AH!

Up for your consideration is a rifle I traded into this summer. It is a very good condition commercial FN Mauser chambered in .220 Swift. The barrel on this particular rifle is in good shape. I was able to shoot a .89" group with factory Hornady ammo. Handloads should produce some stellar groups. It is a 1954 model with all the original markings

It is pictured below with an older scope and rings that have since been removed. I have replaced this setup with weaver mounts, warne ultima rings and a Nikon Prostaff P5 3-12x. There are two options:
  1. I can remove the above and remount the old setup. I cant speak to the functionality of the scope as I didn't both to mess with it. It is a "Prominar Scope 10X", made in Japan and the glass is really nice for how old it is. $650 + shipping or if you are in Texas and want to meet FTF, I will do $600. I have an LTC.
  2. I can sell with the new optics setup for additional funds. The Nikons are no longer made but are great scopes. $800 + shipping. $750 FTF in Texas

I am located in DFW but will be traveling to SA for business at the end of this month. My drive will take me through Temple, Waco, Austin and then I will be in San Antonio from 01/29 - 02/01. I have plenty of feedback on here as well as another popular gun forum with the same username.

If you look at your “Prominar” scope it should say KOWA on the opposite side. Is the reticle off center ?

That is as designed for better light transmission

I would take that Kowa all day over the Nikon. Even if it needs rebuilt and new O-rings it’s a better scope.

I highly recommend @MTA as a seller, and this is a great deal. I saw this rifle in person right after he got it, and it is in great condition!
Good to know this - thank you! There’s nothing better than “boots on the ground” knowledge!

It is indeed a Kowa. I am a fan of Howa rifles, so the name similarity stood out to me when I saw it that day (I'm not aware of any relation between the two companies, though). I went home and did some research on it, and sent my findings to Chris. That Prominar 10X scope was made by Kowa Optical Company in Japan during the late 50's or early 60's, and was very high quality glass for the time (still is, really). To a vintage scope collector, it's probably quite desirable.

If not spoken for, I will take it with the Nikon. I am in Austin, but make it to DFW regularly. In fact, I will be in Dallas 1-4-24.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.
