300 WM Dangerous game calibre rebarrel (Advice Welcome!)

Given the action length and the fact that you reload, I would go with a 458 win mag or 416 Taylor.

Should just need a new barrel and should feed well. Highest chance of success with the lowest cost and inconvenience. Two great cartridges IMO.

I was looking at doing something similar and found that K.S. Arms in Edmonton makes both chromoly and SS barrels in .416 and .423 for CAD$575. They charge CAD$525 for re-barreling- threading and fit to action, chamber, crown, and caliber engraving.

They have a good reputation on other Canadian forums.

Good luck with the project!
That's a deal! Wish I had found them when I was building my 404 two years ago. I had to drive my gun across the border as a 30-06 and have the gunsmith in Plains, MT put the 404J barrel on it (also made in Plains). Moving gun parts across the border has become very complicated.

I have a ruger 77 tang ssf safety in 7 mm rrm mag I hope to change to 416 ruger .Then I get the safety under my thumb like double barrel you can take the ssfety off and shoot at the ssme time .I have lost lots of game fumblimg with model 70 safety .

My only hesitation with a .416 ruger is that shes a very fat girl. There were feeding issues with it in the rugers when it first came out and I imagine getting it to work right in an action built to feed win mags

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
