Is 5-6 days hunting enough time?

Lots of variables, but it's absolutely doable. Mostly depends on the lodge rules, what you are hunting and your budget. Was part of a 5 day hunt in 2023, first trip, enjoyed every minute, no regrets. First trip is and will be your learner and hopefully with a great experience. The follow-up...

Flew Delta, Greensboro NC to Atlanta to Johannesburg and back, mostly event free. On the return trip, long lines with customs and claiming our rifles along with the flight back to Greensboro being moved up caused the rifle cases to get delayed till the next flight, wasn't too happy about that...

Best All Around Caliber for Plains Game

On the group hunt I was with, one fella was using .308. The largest game he was after was Wildebeest, in witch he took a nice blue and a stunning golden, both were one shot drops and in that 125 to 150 yard distance. I don't remember if he was using 150 or 168 grain, but it was Barnes solid...

Best All Around Caliber for Plains Game

Well for some of the smaller game, this isn't a bad choice, Impala for example. I took one with my .300 RUM using 180gr Nosler Partition, definitely way too much gun.

    Venatti Rifle Case Review

Looks like a really nice case and I completely agree about the lock. Old school case would have had a type of trunk draw bolt latch, most likely one on each end. I think the use of screws vs brad nails would be a better choice as well. Plenty of options for upgrading.

Hopefully things will work out for ya, shipping was a concern for me too. Well the whole trip was as I was "breaking the ice". Safari Cargo Systems handled the shipping to Coppersmiths in Atlanta and my taxidermist picked it up for me.

    100 year old plus guns

A few more sitting around, a Stevens Crack Shot 26 and an Ithaca Flues 20ga made in 1917. These two have unique character in their appearance, but they work. The Auto-5 turns a century old in 3 years, 16ga, but it's chambered for 2-9/16". I find it strange that the barrel has Ogden, Utah and...

    100 year old plus guns

I'll start off at the century plus mark, some might still be in use, maybe noy. Or like mine, in the reserve section of the gun collection. I only have a few and they are likely low end to some of the more affluent folks, but here goes. A model 1911 dated at 1918 The second is an 1887...

    Old World American Beauty

Yes, one of each and both are 16ga. The model 11 was my dad's, plain barrel, modified choke. The A5 has ribbed barrel, full choke but is difficult to shoot. It's chambered for 2-9/16" shells, short shells I've found are 2-1/2" and generally have trouble cycling the action.

    Most impressive trackers?

I too made a poor shot on a Gemsbok, will blame it on jetlag, but the PH and tracker team that assisted me was amazing. Was a solid hit, just a bit high over it's right shoulder. After about an hour, it was found lying in a thicket and I still had a hard time spotting it. Shaun with Wild...
