Absolutely! The cookie cutter out of the box "one gun fits all" kind of makes us forget how important fit is. I am more of a shotgunner than rifleman and fit is so important. My LOP on a sporting gun is 15" at the least. Good luck getting that at Bass Pro haha. Well, maybe with spacers from some...
Yes that is a 24" barrel and it does look longer because I took the pic from the barrel end at a weird angle. LOP is 14.25 if I remember correctly. Compared to a Kimber Caprivi or Winchester Safari Express is it longer Length of pull. Mounts great. Compare to mounting a sporting shotgun vs a...
Hi All,
I would like to sell my Heym 404 Jeffery. I bought it from Chris Sells in the last three years and just have not shot it much. Have a two year old now and might be a while before I get back to Africa. Lol
Here are the details. I have the rifle, 2 boxes of factory Hornady ammo. A Murray...
Agreed. I wish they would. One thing I love about the express rifle is the weight without the scope and the way it fits so well when using the irons.
I’m just not as effective as with an optic. Really hate to admit that but it’s real lol.
I thought about having this done at a machine shop near home. Might have switched gears for a Leupold 1-6 in some Alaska arms rings.
Won’t be mounted low as I had hoped for but could be better for my vision that is not what it was at 20 haha
I spoke with Chris today and unfortunately he said the company that made them is no longer making them.
Please advise if you know of any plan B to get a RMR on a Express rifle
Hi all. I am trying to find a good mount for the integral base on the Heym Express rifle to mount either an RMR, Aimpoint T2 or ACRO P2.
Not having much luck finding anything other than just using rings and mounting either an Aimpoint 9000L or a regular scope.
Lower the better if you know of...
Not sure if this pic will come through but federal Terminal Ascent did the trick with no issue. I’ll still replace the spring and pin assembly as soon as they show up.
404 Jeffery DGX and DGS. All factory for now but need to reload some North Forks.
I don’t normally carry all that ammo at once but it makes it handy to just grab the belt and rifle to go to the range lol.
Another vote here for a Winchester Model 70. For this hunt and your future DG hunts you could use the Safari Express in .375 perfectly. Or get the 30-06 for your plains game hunt.
I shot the buffalo in my profile pic with a Kimber Caprivi .375 as well as a lot smaller animals including a...
Ahh that’s a bad feeling. You get him with the follow-up shot?
I’ll shoot them once my bolt is cleaned better and see who else I might know that shoots 30-06. Unfortunately most of my friends and family around here are all shooting 6.5
I would vote for the Swaro between the two mentioned. I have a VX6HD Patrol 1-6 on a M70 30-06 and that has been the scope I’ve been enjoying on hunting rifles.
I hunt a lot in west Texas where shots to 300 and beyond are very possible and never feel underpowered at reasonable hunting ranges...
Thank you for the detailed info and experience. I will pull those bullets when I’m at my dad’s house because he has the press with a die you can tighten and then pull it that way.
Then we can do the inspection you described and check those boxes.
Remington and Federal are doing great so far...
No Sir, I have not done that yet. There was zero sound of any ignition and I am not really sure what to look for. Might be able to do this if I get the bullet puller that my dad has at his house.
Ouch! It’s one thing when the worst that can happen is a deer or a hog gets away. But there are some guys up north and abroad that are really in trouble if that click happens at the wrong moment.
I will be leaning into reloading after the experiences shared on here!
Quick update, I’m a Winchester fan for life now. Even more than before. They are sending a whole new recoil spring/firing pin assembly. And a mag spring as well just because I mentioned it could be a bit tighter. Awesome customer service.
I also spoke with Hornady and there is no recall or...
Great info and I appreciate it. I’m actually glad to hear the multiple similar experiences and that it’s likely not the rifle.
I had a featherweight 270 that only shot reloads with 140 grain trophy bonded tip federal. So far, this rifle likes factory ammo. (Except for the misfires lol)
That does make sense. If it’s not seated firmly that is going to take away some energy from the pin strike.
I appreciate the info. I’ll stick with the ammo that’s working and call it good. The federal is shooting great. A 175 grain that was shooting approximately .75 moa with three 3-shot groups.
I reload as well but I’m not that experienced. I have always just seated the primers with the hand primer from RCBS and visually inspected to make sure they are deep.
Sounds like I need to read up on primers and seating.
Good to know. I really don’t want to ship the rifle over this. I looked at the primer depth but couldn’t tell much difference by looking at them.
I have some factory swift and other rounds to try soon as well.
I picked up a Winchester super grade in 30-06 and put the first rounds down range this weekend.
I had two Ammo brands with me on day 1. The factory Federal Terminal Ascent shot great and functioned 100%. I had another big name brand that had two out of 6 that did not go off. (Thought maybe the...
I am starting to think that’s the way to go. I talked to Chris Sells again and had considered a Merkel used double for a more even trade as far as rifle value.
But it’s tough to think of getting out of a bolt gun that works like a champ in order to get a double that might take some work to get...
Hello All, I picked up a Heym Martini Express chambered in 404 Jeffery from Chris Sells around a year ago. Awesome rifle!
Having said that, I really have never gotten the double rifle bug out of my system and I can’t afford both lol.
(I am located in DFW)
Please let me know if it is...
My dad loads 64.6 Grains of RL15 for the 350 grain North Fork Softs and Cup Point Solids. Norma brass and Winchester Magnum primers.
It shoots extremely well in one Winchester Safari Express, three Kimber Caprivi’s, and a Heym Express rifle. Same POI of solids and softs.
That load has been...
A-Frames are another I want to try. Always read positive reviews and they are definitely proven. One other bullet id like to try is the Cutting Edge brass solid. The brass solids were available when I checked a couple days ago. And surprisingly affordable.
I ended up ordering some North Fork 430 grain solids to reload. Hoping to get those going about 2,250. Maybe they will get some softs in soon and then I can see if they both hit to same POI.
