Best low power EE scope in production

I mounted a Leupold 2X10 on friends rifle this year and liked it a lot. I was never much on scopes that use batteries but that firedot reticle really helped my old eyes.

    USA: Deer & Double Rifles

The Savage 1899 is among best repeating rifles ever made. With fully loaded rotary magazine it balances very well. I have 1949 vintage EG .300 and it's a gem. Even today it is amazingly modern looking rifle. Federal Cartridge makes excellent 180gr spitzer SP in .300, so be sure to check them out.

    Dangerous Game Double Rifle

I always thought a 22wmr or hornet might be great choices fir a small game double. I dud see one in 22lr once based on a 410sxs. But that's a beautiful gun and should be great for all kinds of small game.

    6.5 CM or 6.5 PRC

For deer I’d go with the CM. More than enough for deer at your max distance, cheaper to shoot, easier to find ammo, less recoil, etc Chronographed (143 gr ELD-X commercial) 6.5 CM (2066 FPS @ 500) Estimated (143 gr ELD-X commercial) 6.5 PRC (2268 FPS @ 500) For comparisons… Chronographed...

    Pulsar Thermion Scopes

I had the xq50, shooting buddy has the XP50. nice scopes, good overall picture when non zoomed and easy software but I wasn’t happy with the image on those longer range shots which always seem to be the important ones! switched to a ward t-ceptor 55-3 and really pleased with the results, better...

    Recommended Ammo for .375 H&H?

I’ve used PPU .375 300 grn SP & I wasn’t impressed but at least I ended up with 200 cases. PPU applied bitumen sealant between the bullet & the case neck (as with military RG for instance) & it left a residue in the throat area of the barrel & also needed solvent to clean it from the case. For...

    Recommend a double 500 NE?

I have used the Barnes 300gr TSX in RSA, nothing walked away or needed a second shot. I couldn’t find the 270 grainTSX bullet but in the UK would have happily used it on everything. The 250 grain TTSX is also worth a look if you’re after PG. The PPU stuff is cheap to practice with but I...

    Thoughts on 44 Magnum

Never noticed much difference between the 41 and 44 recoil wise. 44mag has lower power loads available. 44 Special for practice. Snake Shot. Many more components if you hand load. Fearsome high power loads. Easier to find. I've had several 41's but the 44 is more versitile for me.

375 Ruger vs 416 Ruger for an all-around rifle

I suspect if those cartridge's sold better Ruger would make them. Can't imagine much call for them in North America. If something large like that were needed I'd think the call would be for the 375 H&H or 458 Win Mag.

    Mauser M12 rifle

I have an M12 in 6.5x55 and it has become one of my favourite rifles. It is fitted with a 3-9x36 Swarovski with #4 reticle to keep the Euro feel. It shoots every bullet bar one (140gn Speer) into under an inch at 100m straight out of the box. No fiddling with bedding or trigger, just clean, add...
