    Favorite Hunt?

I love them all. One of the extra special is wild boar driven hunts for two reasons: 1) Hunt itself: Quiet snowy woods in January. Boars roaming through the snow and young spruces thickets. Only seconds to react, judge the animals and shoot fast. Majestic red deers make the special picture...

If this is lion hunting…. You can have it

Hi @VertigoBE , like your post very much as always. There is one thing though which I see differently (it is about bowhunting – even though I do not bowhunt, I find bowhunting ethical – if done properly - and I agree more with @Tundra Tiger). Allow me to offer another perspective and please bear...

Who Is The Next Hemingway, Ruark?

Excellent question @Kevin Peacocke (as always) (y) Hemingway and Ruark are THE NAMES for me - because I am not from hunting family and Green Hills of Africa and Use enough Gun basically drew me to take up hunting. So I will be strictly talking about topic of hunting here: I don't see many...

    The ideal retreat home

For me the ideal would be something similar to this theoretical digital construct .... hacienda from the video game The Hunter: Call of the Wild (Quatro Colinas reserve). Every time I see this or play this, oh man, I just feel the fertile land, the heat of high noon sun and smell of pine...

Oh dear. Let’s hope the House of Lords steps up

Wow. I wonder what happened to the poor lady after the show ... hope those "most decent people" did not crucify her. When she start talking facts and no better way she just signed the death sentence . Very nice "in your face" moment about PETA funding the conservancy though .... thumbs up.

    Favorite movie lines

And virtually anything from Demolition man given the current state of affairs and people hating hunters one comes to mind: Taco Bell Patron: What would you say if I called you a brutish fossil, symbolic of a decayed era gratefully forgotten? John Spartan: I don't know... thanks?

Germany to OR Tambo: Which Airline company has affordable prices on bringing a rifle from Germany to OR Tambo?? Lufthansa costs: 500 Euro per rifle

Not sure about the departure airport, but I think Emirates via Dubai have no trouble or additional fees with guns as long as they are in standard dimension secured baggage. It will take one of the two baggage limit of course.

    Hunting dogs

I joined the Hunting Dogs Addiction Group too (a year ago). This is my first dog (I am more cat person) so it is steep learning curve for both of us :) Walking the meadows with a smart dog and a gun ready to shoot on a sunny day, joining our senses and abilities to find the hidden pheasants is...

    Your Favorite Africa Hunting Photo

The landscape was the most amazing thing for me in Africa. I keep returning to this particular photo. People are different, yet somehow similar all over the world. You can see the african animals elsewhere too. But the land! .... oh, what a land!

Drinks that remind you of Africa

Virtually any cool apple juice ... reminds me of can of cool Apletiser just pulled out of the fridge on the back of toyota pick-up. Its More Than Just A Hunt...

More than just a hunt moment on my first safari was the nature and landscape .... rugged and thorny, but beautiful. There is just nothing like this back home and for me it was simply captivating. Neither sunrise nor sunset, but mid-day was the magic time. Mid-day in september when the sun is...

    30.06 FMJ for caracal/serval?

My much older colleague hunters said they used to shoot european foxes with FMJ in the old days. Long story short: if hit, they die eventually, but can run away up to 200 meters, so plenty of tracking for not much blood and can end up in the thickest bush imaginable (most shots with 7x57 - don't...

    The Long Road To Africa

Information Please on 2 guns I inherited, one Brno 7.9 and a Webley shotgun

Very nice guns and with family history - would be pity to sell them. My two cents to shotgun marks: I have been told that many european gunsmiths used to buy barrels from Belgium (that is the reason of belgium proof marks) and then assembled them into their rifles (stocks, breach, etc.). So the...

    Rimmed (only) Cartridges

    Exclusively for hunting cartridges

7x64 is quite a popular all-round caliber here in Czechia. Also its rimmed twin: 7x65R. Ammo is available and not expensive - first choice to me too. You have to scratch out 9.3x64 of the list - Russian Army snipers use this caliber in SVDK rifles as more effective tool to penetrate body armor.
