Thanks. Great hunt.
I’ll have to respectfully disagree with the trigger happy comment though. I’ve hunted with Dalton and York for years now and York has only discharged his rifle with me one time. That was this hunt on the hippo which I shoulder shot from under 10 yards and he was still on...
They weighed 36/38 lbs on the local scale but possibly the local park’s scale wasn’t calibrated. We were guessing 45 or so. Waiting on definitive weight when they get back to Harare.
Finally got around to doing an MRI yesterday. Turns out there is a posterior malleolar fracture along with ligamentous injuries. Will get wear a boot for now.

I wish we had made a new discovery but they were discovered in the 80s and have been studied over the years by teams of scientists.
Thanks 375 Ruger! Good to hear from you. Yes, one of the hardest parts of any hunts is leaving rifles behind. I love the 404 for sure. But already had 375 loaded up, had a recent 4457 and everyone else going with me was taking 375s so made it easy if we had an ammo issue.
Did an Xray when I got home and there was no fracture. I’m sure there’s a ligamentous but haven’t made time to do a MRI. Over a month out and I can walk just fine but still can’t walk down stairs normally. I think these things take a long time to get back to 100%
I agree. Taxidermy along with shipping costs have skyrocketed. We set up a big TV in our hunting lodge and have our videos and pictures on a thumb drive playing on a loop the whole time we’re there. Great alternative to traditional taxidermy.
Having gun cases and bags made is another great...

Vaughn just gave me snippets of kill shots after the hunt. He’s working on the full edit. It will eventually go on YouTube as an episode on Untamed. I’ll post the link when he gets it done.
Vaughn did a really nice job filming the...
As any one that knows me well would tell you, I’m certainly not an overly sentimental guy. But I would be remiss and the report incomplete if I didn’t at least mention the emotional experiences during the hunt. Hunting lion and bull elephant is hard to fully describe but I imagine many people...
As we entered the last few days of the hunt, our attention turned towards tuskless. We had seen tuskless almost every day, and had made a few brief attempts early on, but then purposely waited on taking a tuskless once the other hunters started bringing in quite a bit of meat. Now we got serious...
Next few days consisted of looking for a 46 inch sable that they had spotted a few weeks earlier, Kudu, or any other plains game that might present itself. No luck in the sable department. We did see a big beautiful roan, but they were not on quota.
York and the trackers spotted some hippo...
The next couple days consisted of us going back-and-forth to the blind in the mornings and evenings. The younger males were eating and an adjacent group of females came to eat from the bait but we didn’t see the old man. After sitting in the morning, York would drop me off at camp so I could...
The day after building the blind, we pulled up to the bait and lions were eating, and of course, barely ran off when we pulled the cruiser up. We pulled past the bait and into the area that you can see on the picture. The road cut across the river on a shelf and to the right side of the picture...
After several days, we finally got the old male to come into a bait. First several days, we would have pictures of the younger males at the bait and would find tracks of the big boy, but he wasn’t eating. That finally changed and after seeing his video, we decided to build a blind.
Next couple days consisted of lots of driving and lots of bait checking. We were treated to several videos like this one where a younger lion is having a bit of a disagreement with a couple girls on who gets to eat first.
Next few days we’re busy hanging baits, checking baits and cameras, etc. By this point, we were assisted by our hunting partners bagging buffalo, tuskless, and elephant bulls themselves and were able to utilize portions of their meat, but feeding numerous lions requires lots of meat. All told...
Spent the next day hanging baits, but still needed considerably more meat. So we were on the lookout for tuskless or dugboys. Trackers amazingly spotted a group of 3 dugaboys from about a mile away. We hopped out of the truck and grabbed both rifles and the stalk was on. I enjoy a traditional...
First day, we needed to get some meat in the trees for lion bait, and quickly got on a herd of buffalo. Took the first old cow we found trailing the back of the herd. Frontal shot from about 130 yards with 375 H&H. Cow went about 100 yards and went down. We didn’t wait and immediately followed...

Agree. The fact that they ever released that inferior of a bullet for DG is enough to keep me from ever using them. Too many good bullets to ever mess with a hornady.
Very sad. It’s truly a beautiful, wild place. If Dalton and York could keep it long term, it would be like the garden of Eden. They have maintained a friendly relationship with the folks that bought the lease. I’m still holding out hopes that maybe in a few years when they figure out...

375 HH
North Fork 300 gr PP
Seems like several threads lately on bullet choice, best cat bullets and even a few questioning if 375 HH was enough gun for DG. Thought folks might find this interesting. Was very happy with the combination of 375 and NF PP.
I’ve posted these recently but they’re so pretty, it doesn’t hurt to post again. These are NF 375 300 grain from a couple weeks ago. I have numerous recovered NF from the last 20 years and they all look nearly identical.
North fork SS, Aframes, TBBC are all excellent. Can’t go wrong with any one of them.
My personal favorite is NF.
- They have been exceptionally accurate in every rifle I’ve loaded for.
- Never seen or even heard of a bullet failure.
- can load up PP variety with exact same POI to hunt...
375 HH with 300 gr Northfork SS is absolutely perfect medicine for Cape buffalo. Used this combination a couple weeks ago with great success. Have used 404, 450 Rigby and 500 NE on buffalo and can’t tell a bit of difference in how they react to the initial shot. You can’t overpower a Buffalo...
