Just to finish up...
Day 5 we went to Hwange National Park. It was an excellent opportunity to view more of the plains game and elephants. Happy to report that there were a good number of young animals in the group.
Day 6 we hiked through a valley that ran from a rock gorge with several...
Day 4...
Elephant Recovery
Because we had gotten the elephant late in the day, we waited until today to recover the elephant. The crew from camp left at 6am to have time to start cutting the road into the elephant. We left camp at 7am, after a good breakfast.
They hadn't yet completed...
Kevin, the tusks were 25 and 27 pounds, respectively. They looked bigger because they were long and thin.
I was shooting a Ruger Hawkeye African, in .416 Ruger. Hand-loaded, 400 grain, Cutting Edge Bullets Safari solids.
Day 3 of the hunt...
Drove about 2 hours to a new hunting area. Once in the area, drove the dirt roads for about an hour looking for tracks. Saw several promising sets of tracks and were stopped by a local who said the elephants had been in his field the night before. We decided to go after...
Day 2 of hunting.
Left camp at 6am heading to an area further out from camp. Almost ran over a herd of cattle sleeping in the middle of the road. You'd think they find a better place to sleep than the middle of the road.
The area we went to was very hilly and rocky. About 10am we came...
The Hwange camp is along the Zambezi River below Victoria Falls with beautiful views. There are four open air chalets with en suite baths. There is a dining room, bar and sitting area in the main lodge.
When we arrived there were three other hunters in camp, Scott, Mark and Michael...
I always wanted to hunt elephant, but never really thought I'd be able to, then I saw the benefit raffle for Phillip Smythe. I thought I'd be donating to good cause. Didn't really expect to win, in fact completely forgot that I had entered. That changed in the beginning of February when I was...
We went to Kruger after our archery hunt with @Limcroma Safaris in 2015. Our guide for the hunt ( Franco) also guided us in Kruger. It really helps having a guide that knows the park. We were able to see all of the big 5 in 3 days and had a great time.
My daughter and myself bow hunted with Limcroma last year and had a great time. My plan was to start hunting from blinds then try spot and stalk as time permitted but a wildebeast who wouldn't die ( a day and a half later) and a bad shot on a wart hog(a half day) took too much time. I'm going...
I'm planning on hunting 10 days. I figure to hunt from blinds first and then maybe try for 1 or 2 animals spot and stalk.
I'm sure that it's not really difficult to bring a gun but I really want to hunt with a bow and if nothing else it will be less paperwork.
Well, seeing that I 'm getting some bad references on the outfitter I was going with I'm looking for another one. This will be our 1st african hunt so I'd like something all inclusive (pick up drop off at airport, laundry etc)
I would be hunting with my 15yr old daughter my wife would be along...
I talked to several outfitters at last years eastern sports show and liked them the best overall. I had planned to go last year but it didn't work out.
I prefer bow hunting but also rifle hunt. I figured bow hunting would also make things easier going through airports etc.
I'm looking for...
I'm looking to bowhunt for plains game with Madiakgama Safaris in 2012. Anyone here hunted with them?
This will be my first african hunt so I want to make sure I have the right outfitter.
