I have a greater Kudu cape that I had tanned last year at my local taxidermist thinking I would then do the full shoulder mount on later. After deciding to just leave it as a euro mount I now have a cape that I don't need. I was wondering what the going rate for an already tanned Kudu cape is...
Day 7
Our last morning in Africa. I again wake up early to get into the elevated blind before first light, like yesterday. My brother waiting until after sunrise to get back on the tracks of his Blesbok. My dad making the wise decision to sleep in this last morning as we will be leaving the...
Day 6
With the trip starting to unfortunately come to a close, and being the last full day, we thought it best to spend as much time in the stands today as we can. The morning starts with Nicus and I going back to the elevated blind before first light. We hope to get a few animals coming in as...
The Lion hunt has come to a successful end!
We hear that the days Lion hunt has been a success, and everyone involved is safe. My dad and I are now back at the lodge again enjoying celebratory drinks and waiting for the Lion hunters to return so we can hear the full story. It takes them a while...
Day 4
The Lion hunters are out of camp early again before first light wanting to get on his tracks at first light. My dad and I set out on what turns out to be a 3-kilometer morning walk through the local dry riverbeds. Me with bow in hand, my dad with the rifle and sticks, follow the lead of...
Day 3
Starts like the last with a light breakfast and a warm cup of coffee standing around the morning campfire. I woke up this morning more rested than the one before, finally being able to get a good night’s sleep! Today, my brother is off early, before first light, for the Lion and my dad...
Day 2
Waking up at first light from a mostly sleepless night due to a combination of excitement, anticipation, and jet lag; we have a light breakfast, mostly coffee for me, and wait for the sun to start rising. The morning starts out with my brother going after Giraffe so he can get comfortable...
We recently got back from a trip to South Africa hunting with Fair Chase Safaris owned and operated by Nicus Van Rensburg and his wife Colene Van Rensburg. This was our second trip and first-time hunting with Fair Chase Safaris. I really cannot say enough great things about everyone from start...
I am currently looking at going to Namibia for the first time next year and looking at logistics as well. For those that have gone from the states and through JNB did you have a flight plan with Windhoek as your final destination or 2 separate tickets. I am looking at flying w/ points from the...
Check out Double Nickle Taxidermy in New Braunfels, TX. They do a lot of African animals and just finished up my Roan, Sable, and Kudu from my last trip. I think they do really great work and are more than reasonably priced!
I can vouch for these guys! It's a great group with a wonderful hunting area. I was fortunate enough to hunt with them last year and take a 28+ Roan and great Sable on the same hunt within hours of each other!! Accommodations are perfect and they will do everything they can to make sure you have...
So the previous post of the Zebra Tapestry really inspired me to make this, so thanks rubberhead! I wanted something to display different back skins and flat skins so I came up with a "hide ladder" still has room for more hides as well.
I am looking at doing the same as you and tan my own back skins/floor rug skins. Defiantly not looking at trying to do any capes! Just wondering if there is any things that need to be done differently since the skins will be dipped.
If I got flat skins dipped and then shipped back, what does the tanning process then look like. I am wanting to tan the skins my self but wondering what would have to be done to tan a previously dipped skin. What exactly does the dipping process do to the skin? Would the tanning still be the...
