I do not understand how muzzle flip can influence the POI of the shot. Target acquisition of the following shot - yes, absolutely.
Please study the super slow mo video of a pistol being fired. Observe where the bullet is when the muzzle begins to move. It is almost out of the picture by the time...
Gert, I think it is very important to not only have buffalos charging (the PH will assist in avoiding trouble) but also side on moving target at typical departing buffalo speed for guys to learn to put a second or third shot into the departing animal rather than admiring their first shot PH...
Zippo, just fill out a SAPS 520 form ( you can download that from the internet) and hand it to your DFO. Like bushpig said, a couple of weeks and you should have it. I foresee more of a problem on the Zim side, but hope it goes well for you
Bikpowder, this will probably turn into quite an interesting point. May I ask you what your intentions are with regards to your chosen hunting - open plains, long shots or close up bushveld hunting. For bushveld hunting with shots no further than 150 yards with a high possibility of having to...
Why bother inventing things like muzzle breaks for people who cannot handle or do not like recoil? The gases that would propel the gun backwards (like a rocket) are lead out sideways or backwards, thereby drastically reducing recoil. Shooting offhand would be a highly inaccurate practice, which...
Ray, you might want to sharpen up on your physics a bit. See below:
Gun Recoil
Although guns may not be everyday things for many of us, gun recoil is certainly something we're aware of (at least those of us that don't make Hollywood action films with guns whose recoil would instantly kill the...
375 - nice looking gun you have there - welcome to the 404 Jeffery brotherhood. I think, all things considered, the 404 J probably killed more African game than any other cartridge in history. That is because it was standard issue in most African game departments. I probably use my 404 most out...
OP, the fact that the aperture disc was squashed to the one side to start off with, makes me think that this is the cause. H&H would not put a rifle in the market with a pressure point. Plus pressure points tend to create spray pattern - does not sound like that is the case here
Hi Frederik, it almost seems that the previous owner tried to correct the sights but got confused and pushed the rear sight over to left to sort out the left POI. When that did not work he then went on to bubba the front bead to the left (which is the right direction, but not quite the right...
Hi Frederik, hard to make out in the pictures, but the one picture shows your aperture disc firmly on the right - it almost looks like it might be too much already. Check it out at the range
OP, right now we are in full lock down - cannot get anywhere. As soon as life normalizes somewhat I will get you all the details. If memory serves me well enough, I think it was around the US$ 600 mark. Deer but well worth it
@Gert Odendaal , the one I got was made by an ex Zimbo gunsmith. I can find out for you once this virus nightmare is over. It was not cheap but definitely worth it
Gert, what detail are you interested in? I will take detail shots of what you want. The sight is retractable to allow for a scope. Simple press of a button on the side lets it slide up or down
I have a cocking piece mounted ghost ring on my 404 J - different design, but the principle is the same
That rear facing little screw right below the aperture - loosen that screw slightly and then roll or slide the aperture to the right (I can see that it is currently all the way to the left...

Frederik, to me it looks like the rear facing screw below the aperture is the arresting screw for the aperture. Try loosening that screw enough to be able to roll or slide the aperture to the right. I have a cocking piece mounted ghost ring on my 404 Jeffery - slightly different design, but the...
I use Woodleighs as well, which are excellent bullets as well, but I swear by Peregrine VRG 3s, simply because they travel deadstraight through even the thickest bush, with their flat meplats - really impressive. You seem to be doing well though - don’t change a thing, mate
Hi Dirtdart, Somchem in the past two years has steadily become a desaster - huge variations between batches and the availability became a serious issue. I switched over to Vithavuorie (at a hefty premium) but I now have stability with my reloads. By now we are able to get most internationally...
Shootist43, you are welcome. I use 350 or 400 gr Peregrine VRG3 bullets for my 404 (and 375). Using our local Somchem powders became increasingly difficult, so swopped over to using Vihtavuori N550 (same powder for all my calibers!). For the 350 gr bullet, I load 85.7 gr N550 which gives me a...
The few 270's that I had dealings with were super accurate. The caliber that I struggled to get to shoot accurately consistently was the 30-06. After two guns I gave up and rely rather on the super accurate 7x57. I am a big believer in OBT (Optimum Barrel Time). By managing the velocities of my...
Shootist43, I had the 375 built 10 years ago when I managed to get my hands on a double square bridge 1936 Oberndorf Mauser action and the 404 I have now had for 4 years. That was built on a Mauser military action. Both rifles were built by Johan Morkel of Morkel & Krause in Stellenbosch
