Deleted member 11879, So with that, the upgraded wood, checkering, and checkered bolt knob you have a minimum of $6500-$8,000 in your rifle. It is a nice rifle, a real keeper.

I used a Winchester take off stock. Woods is not clunky, the receiver is what I would call clunky. It is in 300WnMag. A Shilen barrel and it shot well, just not smooth at all. It went down the road.

None that I would want for that price with wood. I did a wood stock Montana and it was kinda clunky.

I've known Bailey for several years. He lives about an hour away. His Wagyu beef that he sells a little of is just great. Bailey is one of the few guys that can do it all, metal work, engraving, and stockwork. He also does his own damascus and makes receivers out of his damascus. Bailey also...

    Actions?

I really like the quality of my Satterlie Mauser clone with a mod70 type trigger. They come with follower and mag box set for the caliber that you choose. They come in SS, Titanium, and CM I believe. The Granite Mountains usually need a little work according to a few smiths.

Swedish Mauser 6.5x55 Carl Gustafson action, is it good? What caliber build?

A pilot does not a benchrest , accuracy rifle make. If set up properly and good machinist practices are used, the lack of a pilot has no affect on a chambering job.

    Octagon Banded Front Sight

I built a 6.5X47 Lapua with an octagon barrel and wanted an octagon banded front sight. I knew that I had to make my own. I had a piece of 4340CM and started whittling metal off of it. I actually made 2, but the first was done with the tip of the endmill and left too much tool marks. The second...

Rifle barrels that will withstand a barrel burner caliber - 6.5X68S

    Well Gert, it is a barrel burner. Mine started as a 22-284 and it wasn't a good idea. It became a 6-284 and now is a 6.5X284. I like the 6.5 chamberings. I have a 6.5X47L, a 6.5 Creedmore, a 6.5X284.and a 6.5X55.

I'm on to another build. To fill out my caliber desires I will build a 223. I've got a couple Lotts and a 416 Rigby down to my 220 Russian. After the 223 I will need to build something in the 338 family. I will take a few photos of the build.

Rifle barrels that will withstand a barrel burner caliber - 6.5X68S

300 yards are my personal limit when hunting. I have 2-257 Roberts and just got rid of the 25 06. The 06 was the worst rifle that I've owned for accuracy. I made changes and then shot it. It was a 2.5" 100 yard rifle. It was a cheap Remington BDL. #1 Put another stock on it (factory) #2...

Joel Kendrick is originally from North Carolina. He is a past long range shooter of the year. Joel worked for a company that used the Melonite "Isonite" on their wear parts. OK, here you go: Hello Butch, I was the Armorer for the Army Reserve Shooting Team for over a decade so I do have quite a bit of experience with both processes. First I will say if any on the forum wants a Shilen barrel I can offer them at 25% off their list plus $20 shipping in the CONUS. I have not found that any barrel, stainless or CM, land and groove amount or design makes a difference. My luck with Melonite treatment has been great for longevity...
