MOZAMBIQUE: Has Anyone Hunted With Sengasenga Safaris?

D1 now called L1 and I know the operator there. I have been hunting in the Niassa Reserve for 18 years and I haven't heard of them.

    Planning for Mozambique

Who are you hunting with in Niassa (the province or the Reserve proper)? The Niassa Wildebeest is a beauty - it knocks the socks off any other Wildebeest. Be prepared for your plan to change when you see your first Niassa Eland - they are incredible. The Lichtenstein's is a worthy trophy too and...

    Planning for Mozambique

Kambako has Block B, now called L8. They used to do something with Block A, now called L9 - I think Kwalata operate in there now? I stand to be corrected. Kambako has no access to Block C, or L7, as its now called. The safari company in L7/Block C has been operating there for 23 years.

    Learner Professional Hunter fund

Whenever an 'appie' here in Zim asks me calibre recommendations I always suggest a heavy in the .400 calibre. The CZ550 in .416 Rigby or .458 Win Mag (get it 'Lotted') is a far better choice for a learner to start out with. I agree most start off with the venerable .375 but they nearly always...

    Planning for Mozambique

If a tracking hunt after dagga boys is what you want then I would suggest to look no further than the Niassa Special Reserve. The buffalo hunting is excellent and the variety of plains game is wonderful. Some of the biggest and most impressive eland I have ever hunted are in Niassa. We have...

MOZAMBIQUE: Has Anyone Hunted With Chasseurs De Moçambique?

I see they advertise Marangira which is the neighbouring concession to the south of where I have been since 2006. To be honest I haven't heard of them (but then again that's not saying much).

    Eland

As much as I love the venerable .30-06, I reckon they're on the light side for eland. In fact in Zim, its not even legal to use the .30-06 on eland (or giraffe and lion for that matter). Its a big animal, use enough gun. The .375 is just perfect! With a good A frame or Bear claw, you're good to...

A Simple Question RE: The RUGER Hawkeye African in 9.3x62mm...

@Nhoro you are on the money - the 9.3mm x 62 with factory loads is not legal in Zim, neither is the 74 R. The only one that makes the grade with factory ammo is the 64 Brenneke.

Looking for a solid bullet for my .458 Lott

I am a professional hunter in Zimbabwe and Mozambique, and the Woodleigh round nosed solid and the Swift A frame have been my bullets of choice for years (I have also recently started using North Forks, pretty stoked with them too) However, as most of us know, the Woodleigh factory is now...

    Judging Eland

It sure was Tim, but dropped him in his tracks! Found him at the opposite end of a 'vlei' and he was switched on to us so we couldn't get closer. Good glass, fine marksmanship and a trusty A frame did the rest.

M70 Classic Super Express, 458 Winchester

I have this rifle in 458 as well and it has never let me down! I guide with this rifle in Mozambique and it has been subjected to some very hard use. Where can I find replacment iron sights for this beauty and who sells replacment stocks for them? I should probably consider a composite, but if I...

    7mm 08 for Eland

You are better off using a .300 Win mag or .338 for eland. The eland is a big animal. Why risk it? Better to have a good entrance and exit hole = good blood trail.

Luederitz, thank you! This is the information I was after. Do you know what the factory stated muzzle velocity of this round is? My friend was considering using this on larger game but I will be advising him against this. If you have any other information please do let me know. Thank you.

    Flashlight advice

I've found the Nitecore range of LED flashlights to be exceptional. Their HC60 headlamp and their MH12GT handheld unit are my go to tools when I'm operating in the bush in Northern Mozambique. How are the new Sabatti's in .470 and .500?

Hi Cody! I've heard the same thing about the 450/400's. However I'm glad there is a solution! I think a .500 is on the cards for me in the not too distant future! Looking forward to August! Its going to be a good one! Best Dave

416 Rem Mag vs 404 Jeffrey

I think it comes down to sentimentality. The thought of the old .404 Jeff does stir nostaglic thoughts of a time gone by. However if a guest rocked up with either a .404 or .416 for his buff hunt, I would be a happy PH regardless. Both fantastic calibres! I had some fellows last year on buff PG...

Red dot options for CZ 550 in .458 Lott

Another question here guys... I have a Burris Fast Fire 3 that I want to mount on my CZ 550 in .458 Lott. The CZ's do not have picatinny's so make the mounting of reflex sights, particularly Trijicons and Fast Fire's, a bit difficult. Has anyone gone this route and can offer me some advice...

How are the new Sabatti's in .470 and .500?

Hi Chaps I had a look at some lovely looking Sabatti's in 470 and 500 at the shows recently. They were going for $5800-$6000. I've heard mixed reports on these Italian guns so would like some more opinions from our valued members? As a practising PH, it looks like that cost is in my price range...

What’s your ideal Dangerous Game bolt gun?

Being a guide in Moz and Zim my preference leans to a .458 Lott in a CZ 550. I like the quick target acquisition provided by red dot sights, be it Trijicon, Aimpoint or Burris. Definitely have irons as back up though. I like that large capacity mag on the CZ's and its been proven the 500 grain...

    Bullet performance in Niassa

Hi Guys I've just done a safari in Niassa where my client took 2 wonderful old buff (with his 500 double) and a very nice leopard. He shot the cat with a 300 grain RWS cone point in .375. The shot whistled through as you might expect, and I recovered what was left of the bullet in the tree...
