    404 Jeffery dies

I have a set of CH4D dies for my 404 (couldn't find a set here in Canada when they were required). I'm happy with them. If I had my druthers I would prefer Redding. If I recall there was an article I read a few years back comparing die drands. Redding tolerances are a bit tighter than RCBS...

    The good old 7.92 x 57 Mauser

Some really nice rifles listed in this thread. I have two 8x57's, BRNO 21H & CZ 550. Alas I have failed in my duty as a firearms enthusiast to shoot either of them yet. In fact the BRNO still has the auction tag on it from 3yrs ago (I hang my head in shame)!

    I've found perfection

Hey Earl. Glad you found your ZG (I'll stop looking for you now LOL). I have a carbine version in 7x57, plus a 9.3x62. Your scope choice would work well for where you hunt. I have a 2-7 Nikon on my 7x57 and a Nikon 1.5-4x20 #4 German reticle on the 9.3

    375 H&H rebored to 404 Jeffery

I re-barrelled a Winchester M70 375H&H to 404 Jeffery. Was a lot easier to get done than re-boring. Installed a stainless Lilja barrel. Only one or two places do re-boring here in the Peoples Republic of Canada.

    Trouble grouping .375 H&H

Couple of things. Don't forget it's a hunting rifle not an F-Class rifle so groups of 1-2" are OK if staying within 300yds (my experience with my 375H&H). Are you allowing proper cool down between strings? If the barrel hasn't been "free floated" there may be contact spots in the barrel channel...

    .450 Rigby whats your opinion

I think it's a great calibre. Basically a 460 Weatherby minus about 5%, operates at less pressure, and has less recoil. I have a CZ550 in 450 Rigby. It can shoot 1" groups from the bench (I use a LeadSled with 3x25lb bags of shot for weight). I have fired it off hand at 100yd targets. Being a...

    Are .270s inherently accurate?

I Hey Bruce Agreed. I should clarify. From what I found over the years of shooting is that if the barrel channel has any pressure points they will possibly come into play when the barrel heats up. Hot barrel expands the wood creating pressure on the barrel. Has happened in several rifles that I...

    First range trip .375 Zastava

    I have a BRNO 602 in 375H&H. For varmint hunting (groundhogs) and target shooting I used Hornady 220grFP, 66.5gr's of IMR3031 & CCI 250 primers. Groups were 1/2 at 100yds, 2" at 200yds and 4" at 300yds. Muzzle velocity was 2770fps. Hornady 270gr bullets, 68gr's IMR 3031, CCI 250 primers had...

    Are .270s inherently accurate?

I have a few 270's (BRNO 600, SAKO Hunter, and soon to be a Win M70 Ultimate Shadow Stainless). The first new centrefire rifle I ever bought was a Remington 700 BDL in 270. Really regret having to sell it. Quite accurate but more so for the fact it was my first "big game" rifle. The rifles I...

    Joining the 404 Jeffrey Cult

Nice rifle @TOBY458. Also built mine using a Win M70 375H&H Stainless Classic donor rifle. Not too many stainless 404's around to my knowledge (which is very limited according to...well...lots of people).

My new baby ZG 47 in 9.3x62

Update. Well I finally got to shoot the ol' girl. After mounting and sighting in a new scope, the last three shots cloverleafed 0.30" at 100yds! Wind was blowing at 40mph on a diagonal from behind me as well. I was impressed! Load was using 285gr PRVI SP's. My CZ 550 9.3x62 will do the same with...

Barnes 400gr TSX X-Bullet question for 404 Jeffery

Yes it was originally a 375H&H. I have to dig up the correspondence between the gunsmith and I, but I believe they modified the bolt face, feed ramp, slightly and cut an extra extractor groove. Really didn't have to do much.

I just joined the BRNO ZKK 602 Owners Club

Congrats. Welcome to the club. I picked one up, or was told to buy it, about 35yrs ago. If it's the original brown vented pad be prepared to replace it as they become "kibble" after a while. Action will probably be rough and need to be worked. I used to sit in front of the TV watching hockey...

Barnes 400gr TSX X-Bullet question for 404 Jeffery

    Brass problem question

As per the definition from Gun Digest: Belted Magnum Cases: A Myth Dispelled. Many tend to think the belt on belted magnums is to help the cartridges handle high pressure. In reality, the belt creates proper headspace in a rifle's chamber. ... That beautiful belt has nothing at all to do with...

    .450/400 NE, .404 Jeffery, .416 Rigby/Remington

All depends on what your definition of "hunting" is, and the capabilities, or physical limitations of the hunter are. Scope mounting on 375 H&H

Make sure you have enough eye relief on your scope. At least 4" would suffice. Nice rifle btw. As it shoots heavier bullets you want to make sure you have enough elevation in your scope. A Leupold tech cautioned me about this when I was looking to put a scope on my 9.3x62.
